We know someone who has an 02 plate Vauxhall omega 2.2 diesel he has had it from new and its been well looked after just over 100.000 miles that he says the head gasket has gone and he is going to send it too the breakers but he has offered to us for what he will get for it at the breakers.
To tell the truth I am not sure of the why he thinks the head gasket has gone whether the oil and coolant are mixing or the coolant sytem is over pressuring.
He took the car to the main vauxhall dealer and they told him that the head gasket has gone.
So the question is if the oil is mixing with the coolant and that the only symptom could it be the oil cooler but if it is the head gasket are these a problem to do does the the head need a skim amd new head blocks etc
Is lifting the head on these a pig to do.
Is it possible as well to get a workshop manuel for these car.
Look forward to your replys.

As per your thread in Newbie section, those DTi engines are good for 300k easily, so I'd be surprised if the head gasket has gone. Its quite common for dealer to talk bull.
Either way, as before, buy it if its breaker money. Do you happen to know what spec level it is? GLS/CD/Elite ect?
If oil is mixing with coolant, could well point to oil cooler on these. Its a very simple job I believe, just 4 bolts in all I think.
Did the garage check the oil cooler?
-
My money is on oil cooler.Afaik, they suffer similar symptoms to the v6 in that regard. ;)
-
Quick search though, suggests a much easier job than V6!
-
Oil cooler is on the n/s of the block. Not too difficult to replace.
Best to buy a Vectra B Haynes manual as this covers the DTi and there aren't too many differences between the engines.

Yep,a lot easier. :y

Ray, get impression from your post you do a bit of DIY work? Found this from our old site on oil cooler replacement:
remove the oil filter, drain the coolant, disconnect the two coolant hoses and then there is 4 bolts holding the heat exchanger/oil filter asembly (its all one lump) to the block, remove them and the whole lump comes off...
Clean well and fit with a new gasket

Spoke to the owner this morning.
Its done 105,000 full service history and the head gasket has gone it is loosing some coolant and the coolant system is being over pressurised could it be the gasket in the inlet mamifold does coolant flow in the inlet manifold.
Is the head prone to the head cracking and it not the head gasket but the head itself.
The car has been well looked after.
Sorry for all the question and thanks for the welcome and the help.

Don't want this to come across the wrong way, but its not been well looked after if the head gasket has failed. Its very rare for these to do that, they have odd issue with oil cooler and bleed off pipes, glow plugs ect. But unlike the 2.5TD (BMW lump) they don't crack heads from what I've seen here.
I'm guessing "full service history" means Vauxhall service history?
To give you an idea my fathers 2.2 petrol Omega was serviced all its life at Vauxhall, bought from fleet at end of term. Head gasket (fairly common on 2.2 petrol) failed at approx 90k.
My 2.2, also petrol & LPG'd, DIY serviced, is on 156k on its original head gasket.
-
My advice is to buy it, if its breaker money few hundred quid?
Then get Elite Pete or Darth Loo Knee who are fairly local to you to give a look over, they will tell you whats really wrong with it :y

No coolant flows around the inlet manifold

Never heard of a head cracking on a DTi

It looks like we bought the omega been to look at it. and now having to sort a few loose ends.
The coolant systen is being over pressurised and it has blown a few gasket like the thermostat gasket.
The front brake need to be looked at as it makes a noise after about 30 miles.
It looka like we will have to lift the head not that familiar with these engines done a few A serius and B as well and the k serius showing my age now ( rover).
Is there any issues with lifting the head and do I need any special tools.
Have bought the vetra manual (haynes) with the 2.2 engine is it exacly the same?
Sorry for all the question.
Ray
Ps been quoted 600.00 plus vat by local garage who do our mot to fix.
-
Will collect the car tomorrow having to swop the insurance over and sorn our other car the primera for now.
Was going to just put the omega on our driveway and then fix the head gasket when we have a bit more time but we still have to have insurance on it unless we sorn it.
So have decided to use it it for a few weeks to see what other issues we can find with it.
Read the vectra haynes manuel with the same engine and read that a few times looks a bit more complicated.
Is the engine the same or are there some differrences with it the vectra is FWD and the omega RWD is that the only difference.
Priced up the cost of the bits gaskets and head bolts antifreeze etc about £200.00.
So all we have to do is take it apart well my son can I will just supervise.

I understood from other posts that the engine is the same.

Fairly sure 2.2 DTi in Vectra is also chain, it's same engine I think.

Collected the omega on thursday all looking good so far 3 months tax on it and MOT until july 2014.
For what we paid for we are more than happy.
So far we have had no problem with the head gasket but will give a long run in a few days checked the front brakes will needs new discs and pads at some point but is fine for now.
Trying to get around all the buttons it more toys that the transit we have.
The spare tyre has never been used so is ten years old. so not sure if that is safe or not maybe someone can make a comment on that.
All in all very happy with the car.

Its a special car with an inbuilt time machine.
Its 2012 this year so the MOT last until 2013 wishing time away.

Been running the car for a few weeks now it does seem to use some coolant I am going to get it comfirned that the head gasket is at fault before we change it.
The heater control valve has sprung a leak but not sure if that is because the cooling system is being over pressurised.
Went to the local Vauxhall dealer but they only have one that has 3 pipes on it, the one on the car only has 2 pipes.
They say thats the only one they do.
Could plug the end of one of them but would rather get the right one.
Is their 2 types and if so where can I get the one with 2 pipes.
For now have taken the valve out altogether with a short piece of pipe and pluged the vacuum conector.

Numpties! I'm sure that you'll be able to get a part number for the heater valve for your car here, but that should be what your dealer should be doing! Tell them to get the EPC up for your particular car & get them to do what they're being paid for!

EDIT: Duplicate post Sorry!

Well run the car now for several weeks and a 1000 miles and have come to the conclusion that it was not the head gasket but the heater control valve for the reson it was loosing coolant.
Think we got a bargain for £240.00 our other car the nissan primera we got 130.00 scrap value.
We have noticed somethink on the odd occasion it did it this morning it as if the exhaust fumes instead of going out the back comes out of the engine bay.
We had to collect someone this morning it was cold and frosty when we arrived at his house the fomes was coming from under the front of the car.
The last owner said it sometimes does that.
Its strange.
