Title: gearbox
Post by: paintshoptec on 12 October 2012, 09:28:47
morning all
i seem to have a problem with the gearbox ,sometimes when i pull off going uphill it wont change from 1st unless i take my foot off the accelerator then wait a few seconds then it will change or knock it into neutral then back in drive then all is fine all through the gears
i dont get this problem on level ground, i thought it must be low oil, had oil  check at agents and all is ok even had oil and filter change
but the problem is still there
thanks
neil

the delay from 1st is normal from cold although do not recognise the neutral bit you refer to - that might be because you are improvising to make it change when there is a protective delay.

If cold, normal.

If warm, look further. Check gearbox ecu for codes(paperclip and pedal trick don't cover this)  Service ATF. Etc.

Mine is the same, goes to about 3000 ish (might be more) rev's from cold. Apparrently it is an automatic feature which brings the cat's up to temperature quickly from cold reducing pollution. I go up a bank from cold start too. From cold, it does feel like it should gear change earlier because in 'D' that is what I'm used to, but once first change has happened, normal range auto change resumes (in mine anyway).

it does it when its upto normal temp ,its been on a tech2 at a autobox specialist and no faults found , the bloke seems to think it might be a fault with 1 off the solenoids under load but he cant see how though
thanks

Ok, so check level...? Is it still on its original ATF?

... Can change 1-2nd solenoid when servicing the ATF. Valve body is easy to access with sump off. Filter can be cleaned out no problem, then examine contents of both dumps for debris, clean magnet etc.

If any plastic washer parts are found in the sump, replace thrust washer. Jpat know the omega box and parts well.

Used boxs are about 100 to 200 on here so dont worry too much if it's lunched.
