Got Nexen N6000's on the 3.2, reasonable grib, fairly silent, appear ok in the wet. Its an average tyre, it depends on your driving style & needs  :)

Ok in the wet?   If you get out and push the car round corners maybe?

Normal driving I find them ok, depends how hard you want to push it in the bends.

That said I've not driven 3.2 in ages, so forgotten what they are like  ;D

Depends how you drive. Exactly. :)

Recommending a tyre in such a way to an enthusiastic driver might see him off in the weeds.

Er, sorry, yes you did. Put politely though, your a very steady driver. Op should be aware.

(trying desperately, and possibly failing, to be polite about Tunnies driving as he's copped alot of stick lately)

If there's a budget tyre that works in the wet we would all be very interested. :)

as an average intermediate tyre the read up on them seems ok, as for cornering hard in the wet my days of drifting are long gone ;D.
so long as they keep me in a straight line and are reasonably quite they have got to be worth a go ;)
Thanks for your input and experience as always guys :y

I think its a slightly undeserved reputation, I make progress during the twisties. I'm not someone who does 50 in 60 zones, roads clear, I enjoy a spirited drive. I'm just not aggressive as some are, which shows in my tyre wear & fuel use.

My commute used to be 90% motorway, which accounted for high miles on same tyres.

That said, I much prefer the 2.2 than the 3.2. (but there are other factors involved) Which shows my driving style, so much so I really don't know what to do with 3.2  :-\

I've had several sets of these... They are pretty predictable for a "budget" tyre :y

I would have told them to put the old tyres back on and left. Falkens are around £80 delivered in that size. Kwik fit certainly made a healthy profit today.

Robbing barstewards mate - you've been well and truly shafted :o :o

As said I'd be onto Kwiktwat with alternate quotes and demand a sensible cost reduction.

Only those who cannot be bothered to shop around go to Kwik*hit. Despite their ads they scorned by those who know them for what they are. Plus even with the 25% off they still more expensive than many others at normal prices. Add to that the con job of 'advising you that you also need.....etc and it demonstrates their intention of ripping you as much as they can. :-\ Halfrauds are the same.
:( >:( Tried those NEXEN tyres you ask about (all four on) in the wet on a good road surface and they gave me the fright of my life.......Took em off and re-sold them. Might be ok when driven by a frightened nun at low speeds and a feather on the pedal though.
NanKang are the ones that stick like glue in all weathers but if you can afford it then use summer tyres in summer and dedicated winter ones in winter....Continental being the leaders. Before them I used Michelin Primacy Pilot on the rear and Duinlop SP SportMaxx on the front with never a slip and I drive hard....ask DLK. If in doubt then fit the ones that the manufacturer fitted as OEM!
Cheapo tyres are cheap because they are not well designed and use only basic materials that can pass the regs........
Let the buyer beware cos you only get what you pay for and its your life at stake...and that of others too.
If you can't afford new then use part used that are unrepaired with no wall damage or scuffs. Look inside the tyre for any signs of damage before they fit them onto the rims. If they are an honest dealer they will let you......if not walk away.
Nuff said...... ;)

215/40/16Y86XL:FK452  Falken    £64.95, delivered free in two days. I just put this on my daughter's MG (to match existing before you ask) from Camskill Tyres. Fitted and balanced for a tenner at my local tyre fitter.

I shall be looking at Camskill for my next tyres, they were very efficient. :y

Camskill have a good selection of track day and winter tyres, etc. too, rather than just normal road tyres. :y

I see they have a special offer on F***en 912s in 235/45/17.  :D

After careful consideration, I decided to go for Nexen N8000 (225/55/16). According to several tests, this is a really good budget tyre at a really good price
(I paid ~60 pounds each (including shipping to Sweden) from www.fipio-reifen.com.).
"The Korean tyre gave a convincing performance in the braking tests, and scored high in safety: its braking features allow the tyre to have a place among the premium brands."

The major disadvantages appear to be high wear and slightly increased fuel consumption, but since I only drive 3000-4000 miles per year with this car, this is not really a big problem for me.

I have not yet mounted the tires on the car but have to wait until March/April when it is time to change from winter tyres.
