Title: Job times and rough cost
Post by: bootie on 15 October 2012, 14:14:46
Hello, anyone got a copy of TIS where they can tell me the job times for fitting drop links and new track rod ends.
It would seem that the main dealer in Forfar are going to take two days!!
That seems a bit excessive to me. SWMBO took the car in this morning at 09:30 and has been told it will not be ready until tomorrow night!

There must a time for these jobs..if there is and it's printable could someone possibly send me a copy so I can wave it in their face when I get back to the UK.

Thanks in advance

Jon

I don't know about TIS but a steady couple of hours I would say.
And that takes into account getting some heat into the track rod end  ;)

Drop links, half an hour each side. Track rod ends depends on what's being replaced, if it's complete TRE's then I would say half an hour each side, if one ball joint either side then I suppose it depends how badly seized they are but no way would it take two days ;D

For a garage, two hours including tracking and thats generous!

They want the car for 2 days .. don't mean to say they'll work on it for 2 days ... Job like this will be a "filler" to be done in between other fixed time tasks.

Lazy management making the customer fit around their schedules, rather than giving a proper customer service.

Just the same as couriers who want you to be in the house between 7:00 am and 9:00 pm .. just in case they decide to actually deliver on the day in question.

:(

My local mechanic would be about £60 plus parts (I always supply my own) he's £30 an hour.

As I thought, a "filler' Job

It's times like this when working away from home is a pain ITA but, needs must and as it's SWMBO that's driving it most of the time it need to be right, I'm just a bit hacked off with the lack of customer service..

What I was hoping for was the TIS with timings so I could say to the reception/booking girlie that they were taking the Pi*s!

Never mind, I'll be firing an email off to them very shortly anyway.

Many thanks for the replies chaps.
