Title: Going to look at a Omega on Saturday

It's time for me to get another Omega. I have found a 2001 3.2L Estate Elegance Automatic that seems to be in good shape.

It has 240000km on the meter.

Is there anything special to look for on these V6's

What is different on the 3.2 V6's compared to the Ecotec 2.2 Estate that I presently have? (I know it has a different engine  :o )

Engine wise, camcover gaskets are more of a problem than the 2.2, and cranksensor faults.  Rest of the car, obviously the same as your old 2.2.

Check all the warning lights come on/go off as they should when you turn the ignition on and do the pedal test ;)

Also, the oil cooler is a common failure item on the V6 engines (usually due to poor routine maintenance). I would recommend checking the coolant (via header tank) for any traces of oil before and after your test drive and/or ask if the original cooler has ever been replaced?  Not intended to put you off by any means, just worth a check.

I'll bring along my code reader to check.

Since it's due for a autofluid change I will do a overhaul on everything if I buy it, olichanges, cambelt and other stuff. I am not sure that the seller knows when the last change was done.

What is the problem with the oilcooler, does it needs cleaning or change or...

If the oil cooler corrodes, it leaks/cross contaminates oil into the cooling system. Not every V6 owner suffers this but if/when it happens the cross contamination creates a brown emulsion type mess in the cooling system. The symptoms are often misdiagnosed as head gasket failure. If caught early, the cooler can be replaced and the coolant system flushed and back to normal. If caught late, the cooling system needs considerable time and effort to flush clean. There is a guide on here for O/C replacement if you'd like to view the details. I'm not suggesting by any means that you will be faced with this issue, but some will move a car on rather than sort the issue, hence why I recommend checking when you view.

I will check out everything on the V6's so I am prepared when I will go there.
