Remember the MP's expenses scandal. When it has never really gone away.
One of the newsletters I subscribe to is a pro-democracy pressure group, called Unlock Democracy. They have made a request under the freedom on information act for information of MP's renting houses out but STILL claiming expenses for them. This has been refused on security grounds. They are now collecting signatures for a letter they are going to present to him next Wednesday. Obviously the more signatures the more pressure.
The biggest part of the expenses scandal last time was the obstruction and cover up by the Speaker of the House, looks like this one is just as bad. >:( >:( >:( >:(

They all piss in the same pot :( :( :(

I have been reading about this the last few days.To get around the rules introduced since they were caught thieving from our pockets they have been buying a residency in London and renting it to a fellow MP who claims the rent from expenses, which pays the mortage on the place for the owner.
The owner then rents another place from another MP and claims his rent from expenses. Its nothing short of fraud and a complete disregard for the people who elect them and the integrity of the offices they hold.
Speaker (squeaker) Bercow - a particularily hateful little shit, even by Westminsters low standards, has been lobbying hard in their favour to keep it all under wraps.Citing security concerns as his reason. >:( >:(
Come back Guy Fawkes, you would be a national hero.

They are all the dregs of humanity, who do not give a total sh1t about you, me, or anyone but themselves >:(
They find all the loopholes, stuff the morality. They are always calling the kettle or pot black, but behind the scenes, gleening off any cash they can.
With what goes on in that den of iniquity, joe public would be locked up and the key thrown away. >:(

Nothing surprises me anymore about politicians.

Something has to be done about these rogues all covering for each other and screwing us to line their own pockets >:( >:(

The expenses system needs to be abolished as a sieve has less holes in it... >:(
MP's should get a reasonable salary, and anything else should be paid for centrally.
If the MP needs an assistant or researcher or whatever then the job should be advertised and paid at the appropriate civil service rate. Relatives would be entitled to apply but the job would be awarded on ability and merit. :y
I think that the now redundant Olympic village would make excellent accomodation for our representatives that need it, but if a farflung MP already owns property in London then that would automatically make them ineligible! ;)
I guess that however you reform the system there will always be a cleverdick that finds a way to take advantage. ::) However MP's should conduct themselves to the highest standards and dismissal should be the automatic penalty for any impropriety!! :y Party managers would hopefully be keen to avoid byelections, and thus might keep a closer eye on their members of the house!!! ::) :-\

If they spent a tenth of the time and were one hundredth as resourceful on fixing the economy as they are on fiddling their expense the UK would be flying. >:( >:( >:( >:(

Definitely needs some kind of oversight body to keep an eye on them all, keep getting caught with their mitts in the till, and they even get to vote their own pay rises too!!How goes the saying?"power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely"Goes for our homegrown lot and that shower in the Euro parliament.
