Title: Advance notice of some outages
Post by: TheBoy on 21 October 2012, 10:00:39
The main server has to move to a temporary location, and also needs some updates applied. Its likely, in addition, the network will be disrupted on several occassions over the next 2-3 weeks.

Dates TBC, although due to time constraints, expect minimal notice  :-[

The server is a dull and boring HP Proliant, but the networking gear (some of which is going in this rejig) does mean the room doesn't need lighting ;D

Some network reconfiguration work tonight. It shouldn't be disruptive, but has the potential to throw the load balancer into a tizz

Well that went in surprisingly easily, without disruption.

I'll give it 24hrs to prove stability before friggin' about with anything else - if you see any oddities that could be related to connectivity or routing, let me know :)

How about I meet you halfway, 5:30am?  This would give the tape backups time to finish before I cane the database...

;) Maybe that explains why it takes ages to load the homepage on mine cos its usually about six when i take a looky,  sometimes its literally minutes after the others have. Even refreshing does not help. I just return later............ ::)

A brief outage can be expected at lunchtime today, as we have to stop the webserver, temporarily move the underlying filesystem, then restart the webserver.

Can't see it taking more than 5-10 mins.
