Title: Anyone know what's causing high emissions/heavy fuel consumption?
Post by: llewellyn237 on 23 October 2012, 18:40:57
My 52 plate 2.2 CD Auto just passed its test but I was advised that the emissions only just scraped it through.

It's well serviced and ran as economical as possible but I'm only getting about 50-55 miles out of £20 (roughly 14.5 litres.)

Can you scan in and post the emissions report?

So.. Emissions fine at fast idle and particularly the lambda value is bang on the money. A little marginal at natural idle, so maybe the cat is getting a little tired, or would benefit from an Italian tune up. Could also be an air leak at idle adding a bit of extra air, I suppose.

Nothing too worrying there, though.

I'd be inclined to check for air leaks, cleanliness of the breathers and throttle body, and that it's warming up quickly to proper operating temperature (just under the middle point on the gauge).

Thanks man, much appreciated.

Thats interesting about the MPG, I have a 2.2 Petrol Auto and its awful fuel economy. About 22-24 with a feather foot down to 15 up a mild gradient. My Vetra GSi did about 30-34 around town and 40 plus on the M way. My old 3.6 XJS was better on petrol  :-[
