I can get a combo unit from a local wrecking yard, but I've heard the theft lock system will render the replacement unit useless w/o proper codes. If so, how to switch so I can have CD capability and stock look to dash?

You'll need to provide some details of your car and head unit, etc so that the experts can give you the correct advice :y

Presumably in Canada, you had Cateras? Not sure what was factory fitted to those.
In Euroland, we have 2 different types of security protection, most are the type that need a 4 digit code after the power has been removed, and this is entered with a procedure by the driver.
The other type, only seen on NCDC201x (and the indentical Single DIN version, NCDR1x00) on Omegas is where the Radio, CD Changer and display screen (and phone, if applicable) are paired together. This type does not usually need any code entry, as long as they all stay together, and moved from car to car as a bundle.

Yes, it is a Catera. I thought it would make translation easier if I branded it an Omega. Neither unit has phone but they both have a theft warning phrase on the face by the Bose label.

I should add that on my car the temp controls are not integrated into the radio/tape/CD unit. Are yours?
-
Nope, they're separate units :y

you say you have a bose unit, there is the crux of the problem, you need to replace with another bose unit and display and have the security pass card as well. you will need a dealer or someone with Tech2.

I'm kind of a Luddite when computers are involved, but the tech support son will make this happen ASAP. Thanks for all advice.
