Lee here, I'm ready to admit defeat and get rid of my omega 2.5 v6 auto
we have changed the crank sensor, thermostat and housing, water pump, cleaned the rad out with fernox, cleaned the crap out of the ac rad fins, and the guage is still going into the red band,
It will get up to 92 quickly and sit there for about 5 miles , then within seconds its on the red band, and the temp light is on.... stop as soon as possible, switch off, leave for a few mins and start again, starts at 80 and then drives ok for a short while, and back up to the red band... there is never any loss of coolant, no steam,. no hissing nothing...and when I put the heater on, the temp rises
Now I'm also having probs with the fuel system.... Phil fitted a new fuel filter, because the car was hesitating, like it was starved of fuel... or as my dad used to say its *hunting* for fuel
Since then the fuel light comes on and stays on for about 5 minutes, then goes off, my fuel gauge seems to be playing silly buggers,
and I still have that stupid judder at around 50mph as if the gear cant change, but if I put my foot down it goes away, for a while at least.. Phil had changed the gearbox fluid and renewed the gaskets
-
Are you sure the temperature gauge is working properly?
I'd check the connection to the sensor which is on the coolant bridge.
Do the fans run? Should run constantly if air con is working, otherwise, they come on just above the mid point on the temperature gauge. (but verify the gauge is working OK first!)
-
Had a similar problem years ago with my 2.5,found a blockage in the brass tube in the expansion tank which the return hose fits to,it was grey sealant which i think may have come from the oil cooler cover plate
-
Check the coolant bridge seals and for the hesitancy check the coil pack for cracks/splitting :) A while back i was about to get the hammer out to my car through various problems to yours but all sorted now and no more problems , yourve replaced a few things already so a quick check again on a few things should hopefully sort it . Dont give up even though you feel like kicking it ;)

Send Daz (darth loo knee) a pm :y
Had similar problems with mine.
Took a trip to pinkys palace and never had a problem since :)
-
Lee here again Phil is away till next Tuesday evening..
Thanks for all your replies
Forgot to say the first thing we did was change the coil pack and leads, Oh and we changed the clocks/gauges in the dash to check it wasn't a problem there
where/what is pinkys palace?
and how do I send a pm?
-

If it's only overheating when the heating/AC is on then it may be that the heater matrix is blocked up with crud!! ???
I had a similar overheating problem a couple of years ago, so I flushed the coolant system, new thermostat, new fan switches, even put a new rad in!! No joy!! Then I twigged that it was only overheating when the Heating/AC was on ::), so I flushed out the heater matrix using the garden hose method (see guide) and loads of crud came out! :o Problem solved!! :y
-
As said, flush out the whole coolant system, not just the radiator.
we have changed the crank sensor, thermostat and housing, water pump, cleaned the rad out with fernox, cleaned the crap out of the ac rad fins, and the guage is still going into the red band,
It will get up to 92 quickly and sit there for about 5 miles , then within seconds its on the red band, and the temp light is on.... stop as soon as possible, switch off, leave for a few mins and start again, starts at 80 and then drives ok for a short while, and back up to the red band... there is never any loss of coolant, no steam,. no hissing nothing...and when I put the heater on, the temp rises
May also be worth checking it is really overheating and not just the electronics thinking it is...

its not only when the heating is on, the gauge rising happens all the time :(

have you checked the rad aint cool anywere .when the car has warmed up . this would indicate a blockage i had this once and i tried everything before i pinged it [ easily over looked ] just because water is going in and out of the rad well doesn't mean it has not got a blockage

We have cleaned out the rad with fernox as suggested by Elite Pete

I did the same but it was still blocked and caused many problems . I enjoyed putting a hammer through the blocked one >:( , last resort was trying a different rad and it worked

buy a cheap infra red temperature guage, in 5 min you will know if its actually overheating
-
Thanks guys, all suggestions noted, Phil will be home later this evening and he will come in here and read these, :y
