Not quite. It's going into administration next week and may be sold as a going concern. They are still in business.

They are now officially in administration, I am keeping an eye on developments as my Sony Laptop is currently with them for repair under the very expensive warranty they sold me when I bought it, seemed a good idea at the time but doubt I will see the laptop again and even if I do the warranty will be worthless.  Lesson learned.

Not sure about the laptop but when I worked for them the warranty was with Domestic and General so you should be ok.

It's a shame but it's been on the cards for donkeys years. I worked for them for 15 years but left 16 years ago and even then the writing was on the wall. They should have ditched the stores and just sold online then they might have been around for a while longer. I had many happy years with them and i'll be sorry to see them go, I feel for the staff so close to Christmas as well :'(

Cheers for the pointer on the warranty, guy I have been dealing with on the repair has a comet.co.uk email address so fairly sure that he works directly with comet. Feel sorry for the staff too, I suspect that there will be a lot that get laid off in the next few days.

Step-daughter works at their computer repair place in Leeds, doesn't know how she'll fair at present.Usual thing nobody's saying anything to anyone, least of all the workforce that could be dumped at anytime!

you can be sure someone will make out of this!  the administrators ( bunch of accountants really who are trying to flog it to someone), lawyers, investment bankers - they'll all make millions out of it.  customers and staff however  come off second best

Yep - by the time the administrators/liquidators have taken their cut from the sale of assets, theres usually not much left for the creditors. I was owed £15,000 four years ago,but I think it got swallowed up into KPMG,s bar tab at the local 5 star hotel. ::)

I know how they will feel. I got made redundant three weeks before christmas. It was done deliberatly by the company to show how much they carde about the employees. I had 8 weeks of work booked in for me but the directors didnt even look at the order books. It cost them £15k in penaltys as the work I was to do wasnt done in the correct time frame. They are now on there knees due to a lot more desisions made the same as this one. Unfortunatly, several more people will end up out of work when they go under.
