Title: Non comedy TV Series
Post by: TheBoy on 09 November 2012, 13:47:55
Whilst we're on a role...

List them, and why you like them (or find interesting/unique)

Lost - I was suckered into Lost from the first episode. Yeah, it dragged around the 4th or 5th series. Although I saw it through to the end, the first couple of series were what I found good, the way they presented a character, and then kept finding more and more (slowly) about their history, and inter relationships. The very last episode made you think about the journey you had been on over the 8yrs (I think) it was screened. The episode that really pulled it all together for me was the back stories of Jacob and his brother.

24 - Mindless action. Just when one poor sod has suffered enough, a new episiode starts. One of the few American action series that kept my interest.

Dukes of Hazzard - essential watching for a lad of my age at the time. I was even too young to notice Daisy Duke ;D.  Although borders on a comedy  :-\.

For UK series, its mostly muder mystery...

Morse - an honest interpretation of the written works, played exceptionally well by John Thaw. Obviously set around an area I know well, which might have been the original draw for me.  And I believe the Morse character and I share many similar traits and flaws. Shame I don't share his brains ;D

Jonathan Creek - At the time (they are one shot watches), clever ways of doing the impossible.

Midsomer - I managed to miss this first time around, but have seen them all now. Fairly standard setup for this genre.

Miss Marple - the Joan Hickson ones of course.

For fiction: Morse/Lewes, XFiles, CSI-original and Miami, 24, Babylon 5 and Dexter. All very slickly written, with on ongoing storylines  that follow from the first episode to the last, whilst each standing up as individual episodes 8)

Used to, (and still do really, but don't tell everyone ::)), really look forward to Knight Rider, Airwolf and the A-Team on a Saturday afternoon.

Non fiction: Ice Road Truckers - a bit over dramatic sometimes, but infinitely better than the Trucks and Trailers rubbish ::) Part of the reason I want to ultimately move to Canada...

XFiles went a bit silly for me. But then it couldn't really go any other way. Enjoyed the earlier ones.

I think we all wanted to own KITT when we were little. Airwolf was OK, but not really a substitute for Knight Rider. A Team was again "harmless entertainment" - the film was enjoyable as well.

There's so little on TV these days I don't even get into the habit of watching the series I like regularly.

In addition, 30 minutes or an hour, punctuated by adverts, is a waste of time IMHO.

Series like 24 I like, but got fed up with being drip-fed them weekly, so now wait until the season comes out as a DVD box set and do an all-nighter with a load of beer. :y

A-Team, Dukes of Hazard and Night rider used to be regular viewing, of course.

Being of the same vintage as TheBoy I also consider it a shame Daisy Duke went downhill before she could be appreciated. :'(

Well, passable from the front, I agree, but the gaze wasn't often distracted from the shorts in the good old days, and those are not nearly tight enough. :P

Waking the Dead is good, and not just because of Emilia Fox.

Used to love watching the Six Million Dollar Man when I was a kid, also The Hulk and Dukes of Hazzard (even after they changed from Bo and Luke), Chips, Wonder Woman etc etc

Now, Monroe is the only drama out recently that I bother looking for, and that's just ended  :-\

Sherlock was a good, interest attempt at something new, and I think it worked. Just not for me - I couldn't graps the character in modern day. But I applaud the beeb for trying :y

Doctor Who probably deserves a mention. Again, another I can't get in to, but the relaunch seems to have been a success. Maybe I'm too old for it now, as it is really a kids programme (not that I mind kids programmes, I mean, LOTR has to be in my top 10 films)

Top gear I'd not personally put in this category. I will do a comedy one soon :)

Lovejoy used to be frequently on. Not really my think, but suckered in because my grandma used to like it, and I spent a lot of time with her in the holidays. Same with "nice" programmes like All Creatures Great and Small and Take the High Road
