A brand new Ford Cortina Estate MK5 in about 1978.

After that it was on to my first Vx, a "all new" Cavalier Hatchback in 1980. :y :y

Before this and the previous Omega, it was a Granada Scorpio (not the crap looking later one either), before that was a mk3 Granada, before that a Honda Accord, before that an MGB Roadster, which was preceded by the last Vauxhall .. A Marina Coupe 1.8 TC .... and that's gone back far enough .... for now .. :)

I spent a miserable Sunday morning under one of those yesterday. Still, I spent a miserable evening under and Omega in the evening.

Can I count Opel as non vauxhall? In my murky past I can include ownership of a 2CV! thats only one of my 40 odd previous cars for the road. i dont count breakers or banger racers.

Mercedes C180 about 3 years ago. Quite liked it apart from the dire lack of grunt and only 31mpg for having to suffer the lack of grunt.

very briefly,  between  senators and sintra, there was a pug 505 GTi 7 seat estate....

it was shit

for my 30th birthday (nigh on 18 years ago) my wife bought me a Ford 2.8i crapheap "as a bit of fun" to recapture my teenage idiocy...

my senator at the time was faster, handled better, and was better on fuel,  with a bigger boot, and more comfortable for everyone on board....

the capri went as soon as it was polite to do so....

I have a 1988 (E) Mk2 VW Golf 1.6D that I use for my commute to work.  Technically I didn't buy it though.  My parents (having owned it from new) were going to scrap it, but I managed to convince them to give it to me instead!  ;D

Bought a 1995 3.0 Auto Laguna about 14 years ago.  I had it a week and averaged 13mpg!  :o  Took it back to the dealer, told him he was having a laugh, and traded it up against a 2.0 16v Calibra and a 1.7TD Cavalier!   ::)

Other than that, every single one of my cars has been a Vauxhall... and there have been over 50 of them to date!  8)

Audi A6 Avant estate, got it after my first mig (which was a V6 that gave me loads of trouble).

It was pile of c**p, had it for 3 months and then got the first mig I could find for sale nearby.

Still got that one (2.2) and the current one.

Before that Rover 25 (ex dad's) 2 Vectra's, 2 Cavalier's, Astra, Commander & 2 Mk1 escort's oh and a Mini

Mk1 facelift, with plastic screw in gear lever base.....    ???

super epoxy , great for sticking them in so they stay stuck in,   and don't come out in your hand during a rapid 2nd-3rd change....

Our last non Vauxhall was a 2001 Volvo S40 T4 200bhp auto. It was a fun car, real wolf in sheeps clothing, made many people open there eyes in the traffic light grand prix, Only sold it when idiot brown decided to up the road tax on high emission cars. We sold it then the tax was changed to 2006, gutted.

Volvo 960 estate. Great car apart from reliability.

Engine block had a casting fault, which was replaced by Volvo at 27,000. I just had to make a small contribution. On new engine head gasket went at 80,000 miles (just over 50,000 on new engine) and the alloy around the cams disintegrated due to being a poor casting (common problem), which meant a new cylinder head! Every electronic sensor that could go wrong pretty much did.

Shame the engine was not more reliable as in many respects it was better than miggy 3.0 V6.

Great load carrier, bigger than the Omega Estate. Big downside was rigid rear axle, so not as comfortable as miggy, especially for rear passengers and it handled like a camel. Miggy has a much better suspension and higher corner speed before it is on the limit. Miggy is far better equipped and seats have about 90% comfort of the Volvo, which are still by the far the best I've had in any car.

The Volvo was great in cold weather as the engine would be up to temperature in about 1 mile and unlike the miggy, the windows demisted very quickly and stayed clear in cold damp weather with 4 people in the car.

It is a shame and IMHO a big mistake, that the S80 never had an estate version as unlike most cars the 740/760 and 940/960 sold more estates than saloons. V70 never interested me as FWD and much small boot and loading area.

I much prefer the poise and balance of a RWD drive car.

When it comes to replacing the miggy, options are very limited, either another miggy or a Merc E-Series Estate.

Thats the one Andy B, thanks. Had sills and rear valence made so far, got a pair of new wings. will be getting lower rear quarter panel sections done next, got them done for the monza. Senny ones are 75mm longer with the front and rear at the same dimensions as the monza ones. Then, its just the time to get on with it!!
