Title: Where to buy service items, brake discs / pads & exhaust from ?
Post by: spanish_lad on 14 November 2012, 12:10:33
im thinking its time for a service / cam belt on the omega - the service kit (filters etc) i can get from ebay. Are the Cam Belt Kits any good? what brand should i be looking for ? i bought a powerslide? one for my megane, its been fine for 15k km so far

Brake discs, again, ive seen brembo sets on ebay for about 55 pounds, that looks good to me! brembo are range rover sport O/E.

exhaust - ive seen them on ebay, 106 pounds for the centre pipes and back box plus 27 pounds postage. the centre pipes, just before the back box have split / rusted on mine - is it worth buying an ebay one, or are they made of tinfoil?

Eternal exhausts get a good name, from their eBay shop. I believe it can be difficult to navigate but someone will be able to advise better.
BuyPartsBy recommended for cambelt kits.
Service items probably personal choice, particularly if you can't have genuine filters, oil, etc. particularly as these items are regularly replaced  :y

Don't forget with the cambelt you will need to buy or borrow a locking kit regardless of what people might tell you. I used to have one but have sold it.

Exhaust. I got quite a serviceable one from Poland off EBay. I don't think many UK vendors like Eternal will ship to Spain. I did try local Recambios but the prices were ludicrous (500 euros plus) you might get a better deal in Malaga.

Brake discs. Rears . I found the ones I bought off EBay serviceable enough. Fronts need to be VX/Opel as the aftermarket ones warp easily.

Remember, although well known companies make good brakes, used by many manufacturers as OE, they all make a shit range as well. Guess what you get for the low price?

One exception I'll make is GM aftermarket. £15 for pads, very, very capable, if a bit dusty.

Postage for the discs and pads might be expensive though :-\ unless you fly BA with no hand luggage weight limit ::)
The discs should fit in a modest rucksack :y

I wouldn't recommend buying anything from Euro Car Parts website, the stuff on there has a huge mark up so they can offer the occasional 'online discount'.

There is a chap on another forum I use who is a manager of a branch of Euros, he gives very good discounts on parts to members over there.

Have sent him a message asking if he could offer something similar for here.

I would recommend to buy brake disks here http://www.carpartkings.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=brake+disks (http://www.carpartkings.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=brake+disks). We usually order spares there. No bad experience yet.

I suspect Mr Willams is a troll as its unlikely that someone in the UK would want to buy pattern discs and pads from the US and ship them here.....  ::)

But I'm not in UK! I was talking about the US, I don't know if they even have international shipping policies... sorry if offtopic

OP is in Spain so comments about UK suppliers not necessarily helpful either.

I have imported several things from the States based on cost/availability... Likewise from
Germany :y

Have yet to buy anything from Australia, but that is mostly down to shipping costs ::)

That said, H21s suspicions could have been raised by the dust cloud... Check the dates  :o ;D
