Title: I'm doing a service on a Mini Cooper 'S' this month
Post by: Webby the Bear on 15 November 2012, 19:11:05
Similar to the Mercedes I did a few months back, this one has a stupid Service Interval Display (SID) to reset after it's done  ::)

This is a 56 plate Supercharged bad boy. Anyone know if there's anything to be aware of?

The oil filter is in the engine bay and it's an element jobbie with a 30mm (or something like that) nut.

Any extra info would be grat... like to be as prepared as possible :)

I think there's a magic dance you can do with stalks/buttons to reset the SID on the MINI, I think.. Google knows all, anyway :)

Ah the shitty supercharged Chrysler engine, odd power delivery and drinks like Best on a bender.

The later turbo Pug engine is SO much better

Designed by fashion victims, for fashion victims. ::)

It must be great when your product has such appeal to the sheeple that they don't ask themselves whether it's shit before signing on the bottom line. ;D

At least you should have more room in the engine compartment to carryout the service than with our old, genuine, mini's! :D :D ;)

Easy to work on Lizzie - could lift an engine and box out in less than 1/2 hour - same to pop it back in again ;)

Well said, I'd have a hundred original Minis before even looking at a new one

You have that completely back to front! There is no room to do anything under the bonnet of a new Mini. Any job is an utter nightmare of dismantling and struggling.
The only mildly tricky job on an old one is disconnecting the speedo cable. Hell, if you park the O/S wheel on a high kerb it's just possible to change the clutch without jacking up the car.

Looked at it today. Got to say it's a gorgeous little car.
Was researching for her last night as she said the windscreen washer didn't work. So after the info she gave me I (with the help from del boy on here  :y) narrowed it down to fuse or relay blown, broken motor (easily replaced through the wheelarch cover) or a blockage or leak.

Certainly couldn't have hoped for ''your washer bottle is empty love'' hahahahahaha  ::)

easy mistake i s'pose as there are two seperate washer bottles... one for the screen, one for the headlamps (which was full )

ANYWAY. lovely amount of room in the bay. oil filter easy access up top. standard air filter (as opposed to the cloth upgrades that a lot of them have).  sounded real sweet too with faint supercharger whine.

i know the supercharger has fluid that should be changed but to be honest i dont want to touch that but just wondering if the intercooler (on top) should be cleaned with some compressed air perhaps. looked a bit dirty

Now that has surprised me. :o :o :o

I wouldn't have thought anything could be as bad as working on a genuine Mini.  I loved them, but well remember the crazes and bruises working on one.  Changing things on the outside, like the CV joints and replacing the rear sub-frame, was straightforward, but anything deep inside that engine compartment; ugh!! :(

yeah but look at all the service items....... plugs, airbox, oil folter etc etc all easily changed  :y

admittedly though the supercharger on my mates car takes up a lot of room  ;D

Have you Googled for a way to reset it? The Merc has one, as does her Smart, they both count miles & time down to the next service, but you are able to reset them both. They're both reset by pressing odometer buttons within so many seconds of turning the ignition on.  ;)
