Terbs, seriously mate, this is exactly the sort of stuff that drags OOF down. As TB said in another thread. Iirc?

It's not actually politics, or wind farms, or the eu, or any of that quite legitimate stuff.

What it is, it seems to me, is an ever increasing core of people posting with the sole and express intent of ... Kicking off... Moaning ... Posting as many angry smileys as possible ... Dragging the place down... I guess the above all come under negativity...?

Obviously we all have a bad day/week or whatever. But I wonder if we should question how much "negativity" we put in? Maybe more balanced input is needed?

As said so often on here, what happened to the old OOF...? It's taken me my entire membership here to work it out :-[ but it's this sort of stuff that has contributed to the old core membership dwindle to almost nothing.

Where are they? Yes people come and go, move on, times change etc etc. but it seems to me the single definable reason is berried in this type of mentality.

Times are hard, we are all breaked, the worst of winter and darkness lay ahead etc etc...
Nobody wants to come on here and a load of bitch and moan.

Trouble is, to approach the problem(if you agree it's a problem as such ) is to join in. As all I'm doing now is moaning about moaning! ;D which is in it self a negative input.

So rather than join in, people don't bother and clear off. No?

Come on guys, seriously ...

Once again, we don't know the full story. I grew up near an RAF base, and there were several pubs where service personnel were not allowed, purely because of the trouble/damage/complaints.

And, that well known clubbing destination in Cyprus, Ayia Napa, the squaddies were banned from the entire area (by their superiors, and by the local government) due to the trouble caused (final straw seemed to be the rape and killing of a Danish tour guide IIRC, but it was on the cards long before).

Now, I'm not for one minute suggesting all service personnel are trouble makers, but IME, without doubt, there does appear to be a hard core of them in the army and RAF (can't speak for the Navy, living as inland as I do).

The landlord is perfectly entitled to allow/disallow anyone he/she sees fit, as with any other business (excluding essential utility firms).  As a business, consider why they are doing this. Turning away customers is on the face of it bad for business. So I'd wager there is a perfectly good reason.

The UK media like to hype stuff up, and if that means inaccurately reporting to create a slightly different picture, they will. The old saying, "why let the truth get in the way of a good story".

I note good ol' BT are taking flack from the FT, over their MyDonate service - a free online donation platform for any charitable organisation to use. It seems JustGiving, another similar service (but chargable) who are in it to make money, have a monk on, and have a tame FT journalist on their side. WTF?

But as its sensationalist news, and the British public cannot get enough of it (who cares if the articles are accurate, neutral, unbiased or uncorrupt), so the cycle gets ever more intense. And depressing.

As much as it pains me to ever agree with gayboy gixer, he does raise a perfectly valid point, even if not worded particularly eloquently, and came over a bit abrasive.

We do live in relatively hard times (than we've seen for a generation), and things aren't set to improve for some time. OOF, in my mind, is a way of trying to help - allowing us to save on garage bills, make the pennies go a little further. As an extension of that, lets try to instil a little more happiness into our interactions.

I reckon, we can leaving the depressing stuff to the BBC, Uncle Rupert and friends, and concentrate more on the happier side of things here.

What do you reckon, OOFers?

This section is a bit like a TV programme if you don't like the subject matter then choose something else, and let's face it topics change frequently ....so If there's a rant going on the choice is yours,or perhaps we should censor the subjects so we can ALL be happy campers,or I know, let's all convert to Islam ::)

Come on guys, seriously ...

I have ignored this thread due to it's heading and my fear I would drag myself into comments that I want to avoid now on this, a car forum thread, that I personally have  been "forceful" on in the past.

But having now read the comments, you Chris and TB are absolutely correct on how you view the overall trend of "hateful comment" on the OOF. :y :y :y

Since returning I have noted three points a) so many names appear to be not posting now; b) the Forum is very quiet compared to how it used to be, and c) there is a lack of moderation on subjects to do with religion, politics, and people's beliefs in general with real hatred being expressed agains't whole groups of people.

Come on, we all I am sure believe in free speech, but let's moderate the comments / observation.  Not everyone agrees with your, or my, point of view and there are many who read the OOF in other countries who are going to be deeply offended by some comments; as I said before this is a car forum site and does / should not represent any political group i.e. BNP, BDL, UKIP, Conservatives, Liberals, Labour, or even Lord Such Raving Lunitic Party! ;) ;)

Poor old Terbs seems to have kicked off abit of outrage here!!  ;D

No... Well, yes, but it's good that he has. I know Terbert to an extent, he is very helpfull, generous, and enthusiastic about the forum and it's use. He organised one of the best meets I have been to at Wycombe at the social club there.

He and his lovely wife put on a spread, opened up the bar, we had a BarbieQ, we had car repairs, whe had car detailing, we had chatting for hours and a good time was had by all. ...we also had pissing rain. It mattered not one bit. ...oh, and a pool competition, until somebody broke the table. ::)

I wonder if he'd organise another for us all. ...? He can bar me if he wants? ;)

Maybe it's a prime case? The negativity spreads, like a poison. I think most of us have been there to varying degrees....? As said, we all know I have. Etc.

It's interesting to see what influences opinions. It's also interesting to see what carachters influence mentality. Trends... ways of talking, typing, communicating.

I am convinced the subject is immaterial. But the mentality is vital. We can talk about the same subject, with the exact same facts available, and come up with very different responses. The obvious one is the half pint of water in a pint glass.

Getting desperately close to TB's w@nk word bingo now. ;D

There no changing what's done.

Question is how we go from here. :)

What really made this obvious was the Olympics btw. This was a very different place while the Olympics where on. And instantly reverted back once they finished.

I`m a relatively new member to OOF, I`m not fussed what pple want to discuss in this area of the forum. So what if the subject touches on a negatively charged subject. From my point view it`s a bit of a distraction at the end of the day.

After all said & done, I think we all rightly spew forth when it seems someone is bending over backwards to fall in line with the thought police.

What next? I`ll tell you what.... some bloody looney council banning father christmas because he`s a fire hazard. No hang on a minute Havant council did just this a few years back, was this was the same year the drooped the word  "Christmas" was dropped from the word  "lights"? That`s right in 2005 we had a festival of lights in the town centre during December.

Perhaps those who are complaining should just talk amongst themselves and exclude the rest of us who do'nt agree or post subject matter that meets your approval,if nothing else it goes to prove the point that there seems to be certain people on here that want make comments on the forum about most subjects and it appears that we are all supposed to nod and meekly agree and not make comments for fear of critiscm. If you want to control what people post on the forum then by all means do so,because then the complainers will have it  all their way,and the forum will become ....what??  :-\
