keep reading disputes between buyer/seller,dont know what you think to this idea
(sellers should post all postable items via recorded delivery, this way the seller knows the buyer recieved the item)
(buyer should should ask for contact details ie telephone number, then only pay half of asking price inc p+p costs)once recieved pay outstanding balance.
this way seller knows item recieved, buyer not losing to much money
i carnt think of any other way,if you can join this topic
all bad sellers should be named/shamed in a seprate topic

Fair enough concept in principle. However, bear in mind that OOF is a forum, not a sales area such as E-bay and so cannot enforce such things.
How buyers/sellers want to negotiate their deals is entirely down to them, ultimately...
-
Not sure that would work too well - a seller obviously won't want to part with goods to an anonymous internet user without full payment.
As Hotel21 says, we are a forum, not a auction house. Unfortuantely, one or 2 members have ruined the trust levels we had built up.
Most disputes are simply people being a bit sluggish to post stuff - maybe sellers should make it clear when they can post (eg, only when they pop into town etc).

So far I have had all good experiences buying from here. Is there anyway that admins/mods could get and prove peoples addresses whilst signing up. Thes addresses should not be on view to all, just the admins/mods need to see them and pass them on to relevant authorites if needed.
I am not suggesting the address be given out to members willy nilly for revenge purposes.

Again, fair comment....
How does the admin team verify that Joe Smith actually stays at 17 High Street, Somewhere, AA1 2BB ?
Software linked to something like the voter roll would do it. At a cost...... Until someone is not on voters roll.
Again, its an honesty thing?
-
think the above are right, down to buyer/seller to agree on sale/purchase,
think most of the lads are honest, just the odd 1 that upsets another member
-
why not ask the seller to e mail you a copy of his utility bill(not showing statement) or driving licence to clarify who he is, if he refuses dont buy his goods, at least your know his address in the event of a dispute

very true and i agree however the buyer has to part with his money to an anonomous internet user does he not , it all comes down to trust and a few are letting the side down

the easiest way to sort it out is to place the item on ebid, not ebay, its cheaper and less fee's, then pay thru pppay, its like paypal but not as greedy and its just as safe.
at the end of the day its down to the seller n buyer, i was going to buy a spoiler from SEREK but it never arrived, he insisted i paid when it arrived and not before, very trusting of him, i was sad it went astray but as far as i know he never used a tracking faccility and use crappy royal mail.
I only ever send large items thru www.interparcel.com which is either 8.50 if you use the DHL option or 10.21 if you use UPS, either way its full trackable.
Royal mail are crap, my mate works for them and he agree's they are crap :y :y

Forums for discussion and info sharing / gathering.
Auction sites to sell items.

Maybe have a sticky thread with trusted known sellers??? Or a simple feedback system like ebay?

We are attacking from a different angle - posting up known BAD sellers/buyers.
Feedback system would need to be written (and rewritten with every forum upgrade), so not sure thats a go-er :(

Surely this site is primarily for exchanging information? Do we really want it to develop into an auction site?
I believe that if we are to allow members to share information about items for sale, the current system of requiring a substantial post count and naming and shaming those who have been proved to the satisfaction of the admins to have caused valid grievances is enough.
If you bought something from a classified in the paper you wouldn't expect them to be vetting sellers.. Caveat emptor.

I agree wholeheartedly :y

I agree, not the responsibility of the site to vet sellers or buyers...and why should it be??
Just the responsibility of all to make members aware of any scam sellers or buyers, and the best route is of course through the moderators who can decide what to do about the information...
Difference between this and classified (normally) would be that you generally always collect an item through a paper etc in person so can refuse to buy/make sure you get the item/money there and then...

Whats the extra cost of COD (Cash On Delivery) these days.
No Goods, No Money. Seller then takes the risk to package it properly.
