Title: HBV or not HBV
Post by: Bob G on 28 November 2012, 18:37:38
Reading all the posts on heating at the moment as my lovely hot heating stopped suddenly and all I got was cold air.  All lot of post seemed to center around HBV so though that is the easy one will try that first.  Not knowing what it looked like took one from a 2.2 scrap.  Knew would have to get it from underneath as a maze of LPG pipes.  Underneath today and fing that there is no HBV it looks like it has been remove and bodge T piece fitted, know its not OE as it is nice shiny hose clips.  read another post about turning fans down, tried that and now have heat.  Question what would have caued a previos owner to temove HBV and is it worth fitting one?  What else can be checked as although have heat back it is not obviously working 100%

If HBV has been replaced by a t-piece, then it seems to me that the coolant flow will mostly choose the path that doesn't go through the matrix, as that will likely be the 'path of least resistance'.
So try clamping off the one of the three hoses from the t-piece that short-circuits the matrix and see if things improve?
