Title: Do V6 engines have ignition capacitor(condenser)?
Post by: car5car on 01 December 2012, 04:34:29
I took engine apart and begun putting it together about 3 months later. There was one connector, I didn't know where to attach. I found out it was connector for ignition condenser. I probably lost it or it was never there.
Does your engine have ignition condenser? Where is it? Connector is close to driver side ignition coil.
Thanks.

No - not in the conventional sense.

IIRC, there is a suppressor at the back of 2/4/6 head?

Where is it? Is it attached to plenum?

Suppressor only fitted to 2.6 & 3.2 in the UK. May be different for the States. Normally bolted to the loom earthing point at rear of N/S head. Connector is near the loom for Dis/coilpack

Thanks.
What can happen if I run engine w/o it? What is N/S head? head with 2,4,6 cylinders?
I just called Cadillac dealer, they cannot find it. Do you know part number? It is not clear on your picture. Maybe it was not there and I am chasing a ghost.:)
I would call Germany, but I don't speak German.

I need to call Great Britain dealer.:)

... What is N/S head? head with 2,4,6 cylinders? ....

the 2, 4, 6 cylinders are on OUR nearside/kerbside of the car ie YOUR driver's side ....... the right hand side as you stand in front of your car

Send Andy C a pm if you need one sent over :y He's a friendly Parts Manager at a main dealer :y

The wire from it connects directly to the main power feed from the ECU to the coil pack(s). if it has come loose, I might make contact with an earthed part. The resulting fire would not be pretty. Disconnecting it makes no odds to how the car runs (it reduces electrical interference of the radio), but be sure to isolate it properly within the loom :y

Dealer said "discontinued"
Thanks, guys!
I'll probably go to junk yard to get it. They have 10 Cateras. Now I know how it looks like.
If anybody needs anything, they work 7 days a week, just bring your tools.:)

I had to replace the one on my 3.2 because the wire had corroded were it enters the box. Dealer was only able to source the one fitted to the 2.6 Vectra B . Same plug, but no wire. :y
