Someone mentioned how light these cars were when first built compared to the weight of modern cars.

One little known fact of a Mk1 Golf is that the wheelbase is 10mm shorter then a Sierra. My speedfreak mate was into his Cossies when he aquired a very tidy Mk1 GTI. He then set about fitting the nessacary underbody strengthening etc to fit the sierra rear axle and then got the front inner wings done to take the Sierra legs. after fitting everything and getting it runing and then through the engineers test, he got bored and sold it on. he,s now in Aus playing with V8,s

About 850kg IIRC ....... SWMBO 'little' Smart Roadster is 800kg ??? ???

Any advance on 650kg? And that's quite lardy too, IMHO. Plenty of unnecessary stuff on it:
Windscreen
Heater
Wiper motor
Wet Weather gear
Spare wheel
Padding on the seats
Effing great vented disks that barely get warm ::)

I suppose the 650kg could vary greatly depending on the driver, which i assume is necessary.
