Title: Dipstick
Post by: TheBoy on 08 December 2012, 15:00:03
The one in the engine, not the think behind the steering wheel.

Where does it enter the sump?

I've got a pesky oil leak, and I'm running out of ideas?

In this picture it is disappearing down behind the aluminium cradle for the power steering pump. I don't think I took that off so I never saw where the dipstick went into the block. :-\

Another shot from a different angle. I don't think it goes down as far as the sump casting.

I pulled the dip stick tube out once, on my 2.5 I think, while doing a stat change. Undo bastward bolt and pull. Might talking rubbish though, it was a long time ago. :-\

So guess a rubber seal is involved, on top of the sump behind ac pump.

I'm not going to pull mine out to check  :P but I reckon that when you pulled your dipstick out there would have been on 'O' ring in a groove on the end of the dipstick tube (so not talking rubbish  ;))

yes there was. It was rubbish because all except the desired info was present. Most of which he already knew no doubt.

She's watching strictly, with some distracting nicker elastic. ;D

As I feared. Had it been top of sump, I would have used a sealent. Not sure I can get to that area, so will order oring.

Thanks

Does it pull straight out (once B-bolt removed)?

When out, can you see where it goes it?

How many o-rings on it, epc implies 2

I couldn't see the end of mine or the hole that it goes in to personally, ooooeeeerrrr misses.  :o :o
When I did my stat change, I ended up with the transfer pipe bracket on the wrong side of the dipstick bracket so I pulled the dipstick out of the way and pulled it out by mistake. I aimed it in the approximate direction that it had come from and just struck lucky getting it back in. I felt the 'O' ring resistance until it slid in. Can't help with number of 'O' rings as I didn't see the end as I was panicking.  ;D ;D
If you want me to lay under it to guide it back in just give me a shout and I'll pop over.  :y

On my 2.5 it pulled out almost by accident, and went back no problem after a stat change, there "seemed" to be only one line of sight, and it just lined up with the hole on re fitting.

On my 3.2, I wanted it out the way, but try and move it by pulling and it simply wouldn't budge. I had to work round it, which is annoying if you want to change the transfer pipe as well.
