Hi all,
So this is my first post outside the noobs page and sadly it's a plea for help with an electrical fault.
I'm not particularly good with mechanics in general and electrics in particular, anyway here's the issue so far and if anyone can offer advice or assistance it would be much appreciated:
Occasionally when driving along I thought I could smell faint electrical burning. Probably just paranoia.
Occasionally when driving along, the alarm would start going off. It didn't affect the drive but the siren would sound, then time out.
Both of these factors may be unrelated to the issue, but just thought I'd mention these first.
A couple of weeks ago I drove a 40mile round trip, no dramas, parked the car up as normal.
Next day it was raining so I decided to drive to work. Unlocked with remote key as normal, got in, interior light on as normal, key in ignition and turned on, all dash lights and displays on as normal, stereo and air con start up, everything as expected. Turned key to 'start', there's a click from the dash/ignition area, and everything goes off.
Turn key back to normal power-on position, everything on as normal. Initial thought was seized starter motor. But then over the next few minutes I continue turning the power on and off, taking the key out and putting it back in, trying to start, and the car is doing all kinds of random things. Sometimes the power is flickering on and off when the key is removed from the ignition.
Clearly it wasn't going anywhere so I left it and headed off for the bus, tried it again that evening but the same deal. Left it for a couple of days whilst I decided what to do, one evening on returning home from work I glanced over my shoulder at it and the dash LED display was flickering on and off like a disco. All the activity has drained the battery. I've put the battery on charge but haven't put it back in yet as I don't know where to start looking for faults and I know the issue will just drain it again. The car's parked in the street so not easy to work on, and is obviously immobile. I found a local 'mobile mechanic' but I'm having trouble getting hold of him.
If anyone can suggest where I should start looking it would be much appreciated. I've been leant an ammeter but haven't got a clue what I'm supposed to do with it ::)
Regards,
Paul

First thing to do urgently is rip out the powersounder and junk it. Dying powersounder is major cause of fires in Omegas!
When ours died it flattened the battery. HTH :y

you will find it under the drivers side scuttle panel.
Dont leave it .

As above, then fully charge Battery and so how you get on. :y :y

HAH, Okay! I'll check that out. Is that a likely cause of the fault, or just something to get rid of regardless?

Best to ditch it anyway - but could well be contributing to your faults. Remove it, get battery charged and see if electrics back to normal :y

then id be inclined to check the ignition module on back of barrel, could be worn and shorting out inside sending electrics doo lally and the reason for burning smell as they get hot, im sure someone will post a pic of part if needed help
