Title: Football last night
Post by: Terbs on 09 December 2012, 15:49:24
Not a moaning post, just an observation/opinion :y

Last night, after swmbo went to bed, I switched through the channels and ended up watching a football programme......
Let me say from the start, I spent many years as a referee so know a bit about these things ;) People wonder why I don't watch football, or never go to a match after being so involved.....last night confirmed my decisions :y

The standard of refereeing in some cases was really poor, the players were farcical, and pundits comments, coming out of their 'arris's'
There were many offside goals given, handball decisions against some poor sole who never knew what hit him (rule says deliberately plays the ball with hand/arm) and the usual players on the ground writhing near death till the free kick is given, then the magic sponge brings him back to life.....I cannot understand why the NHS don't have these in their armoury!!!
And the farcical actions of players...what a laugh. Those who saw (I think it was a Sheffield match??) the players surround a ref because he had not blown his whistle over some offence....the rest of the team scored in the confusion, but they did not have the goal allowed because of the situation of the ref and the other players. Classic case of not playing to the whistle. If I was their manager, they would be kicked out or dropped at the very least. I just thought 'plonkers'...you just deprived your team of a goal. What do they call it...'Gamesmanship'  ;D
And then to hear various managers try to justify their teams actions aferward is a laugh in itself. And the TV pundits, who should read a copy of the Referees Chart....they may learn a thing or two (on saying that, a few refs could do the same ;D)
But then I think, why do the gullable masses go and pay good money to watch this rubbish :o :o They must know something I don't ???

I must be getting old....it wasn't like this in my day ;D ;D ;D ;D I'd rather watch 'Last of the summer wine' than football nowadays ;D ;D :y

Its probably difficult for the officials, with the players trying to act better than John Wayne, and pretending to be as delicate as ballet dancers.

Thats whats ruined footie, IMHO

simulation should be a red card imo.

It's language like this that has crept into the game that is the problem IMO, it's cheating pure and simple!! Gamesmanship is another one... it's cheating!!!!  >:(

I used to watch Match Of The Day every week, but I don't bother any more because I got sick of the casual attitude towards cheating.  Not so long ago Alan Hansen said about a controversial penalty decision.. " ... he was touched in the box so was entitled to go down."  and Shearer and Lineker sat there nodding wisely.... Aaaaaaah!!!!  >:( >:( >:(

Dear Terbert, it does not seem to get any better http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-20583970 This is the startof the story and there are another 2 follow up stories to my knowledge.
I allways thought the dutch where decent people, sadly it would appear they have as many problems as other countries.
