Title: Memory front seat, fold flat function.
Post by: omegapioneer on 09 December 2012, 22:48:53
:yHi guys project I had in mind for a while as vauxhall didn't think I would need a fold down front seat in my elite, and make it full memory, took a bit of time to source bits and pieces needed to assemble it. But finally took it in hand and have it sorted. Works a treat was awkward getting tilt working as shafts have different splines for electric adjustable and manual knob adjust, and also making sure that position encoders all were orientated correctly. Had to buy new side piece for seat at tilting hinge. As had got cracked in previous car was only 2poundsnew from vauxhall. Seat switch was pig to dismantle and flip 180 and resolder all switches and wires but now have one off seat that's practical and missus always gets her seat exactly where she wants it, bonus!!! Eric

Hi can take some pics tomorrow of said seat, it was more for the challenge to see if I could do it, don't like to be beaten by it. Cheers Eric

Just a bit of info after all my hard work I checked with my mate in vxgarage and you can buy the proper lhd spec seat switch and side panel to match are available for only about 35 for full switch unit and about 20 for side trim. Thought they were reasonable price. Cheers Eric

A useful upgrade for Estate owners (and saloon owners), maybe the next person can do a full guide :y

Yes had other estate and saloons with this option and although not used everyday so handy when you need it. Glad you like my efforts to rectify vauxhall omission. Next I am looking to adapt and modify a rear window blind if I can for estate tailgate, Cheers Eric

Be very interested in the rear blind... I do miss it in the winter and something I've considered as well as a remote release for the tailgate like the saloon

Yeah been looking into the electric boot realise too and have the bits from saloon but one pushes the other pulls so need to work it out sometime. Would like electric boot opening from remote key. Eric

I've got all the bits ready to do the remote tailgate release, just need to get around to doing it.  :y

I've also considered adapting a saloon rear blind for my estate... Would you have it mounted on the tailgate, or right up behind the rear headrests?  :-\

Tailgate release shouldn't be too complicated to sort. As for blind... It would have to be on the tailgate (or possibly the roof :-\) as opposed to the seats for me

wonder how much additional weight would over power the struts?

Good point... They aren't exactly light units are they ::)

Have to work a way to mount it at the roofline then

Just thinking the same ::) older struts struggle a bit with the weight of a spoiler, let alone the blind...

Probably easiest bolted across the bottom edge of the metal GM dog guard, boot side rather than seat side ::), with a plug connection in the n/s wheel arch cubby hole.

That way, no cutting of roof lining, keeps it out of the way and is readily removeable as an assembly if needed :y

Fitting to the roof would create alot of issues me thinks :-\

i am thinking of integrating it into the rear tailgate panel as roof is non starter and behind the seats is no good when you need to drop half for carryng loads, i have had omega bits in the car including bonnet, and other time was 3 doors, and tailgate for estate, so lots of load carrying space, took a couple of pics to show seat i created cheers Eric

well first you need to get a fold flat seat frame, an elite drivers seat to strip out the electric position encoders, and main control module, the next item is the seat switch if you want to you can srtip the drivers side and swap all components round 180 to orientate it to suit passenger side, you can choose the easy option and get a new switch for lhd elite, and lasty you can drill the old side trim on the passenger seat to allow access for buttons, or again buy a new side panel to fit the switches from lhd elite to it with holes already lined and drilled, you cant use early type seats as they dont have the active head restraint system if your making this for facelift, i found best doner seat is from face lift as has correct colour and grain finish in plastics, seat tipping handle mech is a bugger to prise free with out snapping so you need to be careful, as with headrest clips, when doing the seat motors you need to be aware of their position and direction as passenger motors are mounted in mirror to drivers and you are only using the encoders swapped over to facilitate memory, they are a bit fiddley when seperated as your trying to align the three motor shafts into the correct splines all at once and they need to be square when sliding back together, last awkward is side trim from elite has to be cut as well as side tril from donor folding seat and welded together, then refit all trim to seat and clips etc and your ready to refit to car, eric
