I've been on an aircraft landing in high cross winds at Borispol Airport Kiev. Seeing how far the aircraft is turning into the wind, so it lands like a crab certainly gets the heart rate up a bit.  ::) :o :o :o :o

It has been quite windy in Southern Spain today too. That is why people put rocks on their roof

I once was in a hairy landing like that on a Greek Island(Mykonos). I could see all of the runway out of the window till the last second

Pilots are very aware that the nose wheel is under the cockpit and it they have a "controlled crash" or very heavy landing, this will crush them in the cockpit.  ::) :o :o :o

Most pilots are well aware that they are the least likely to survive a crash, so they do have a very strong self preservation instinct, which with their high training and skill levels, means there are very few incidents, so it is along with trains the most safe way to travel.  :y :y :y :y

Hats off to the pilots and hope they sent the hat round for a collection, followed by nappies and clean undies for passengers.

I had a flight to Stornoway like that and it was a young female pilot, she did a brilliant job, better than the bloke that dropped the plane onto Glasgow runway half an hour previous. To say I was pooping myself was an understatement :-X
