Title: Equality
Post by: feeutfo on 22 December 2012, 17:26:00
lets start small...

its polite to hold a door open for anyone following behind, yes?

yet, i'm really not sure if i should anymore, esp if the person behind is a woman!

....even more especially, if shes all dolled up, is if she thinks shes attractive.(she may or may not be attractive, thats not why i'm holding the door from smacking her in the face, its because shes not looking where shes bloody going usually) The number of times i get a stroppy bint that doesnt say thankyou, or worse, a snarling response, as if being polite is somehow an indication of an inteded rape or sumat. Sometimes they dont even take the door off you, if you know what i mean. They just walk through, dont even touch the door and walk off. Bloody rude imo.

....what happened to basic manors...? And from women as well?

... i may have over stated this a touch  ;D but i cant be arsed to re type it. You know what i mean. ;)

Well I am one woman who always welcomes a man holding a door open for me, and thanks him with "your'e a gentleman" which is what a man is in my book to hold a door open for a woman.  It directly reflects on him and his personality and up bringing. :-* :-* :-*

If a man does all that and has a woman, and they certainly do exist, that snarls at him, or fails to be polite then it badly reflects on her ladylike manners, or lack of them.  The man has done everything he can so he is good, it is the woman who is not.  That is her problem!

I think it has nothing to do with equality, male or female, whatever. It is, as you say, basic manors. Like "please" and "thankyou"

I always open doors for ladies, walk on the outside of the pavement allow them to pass while I stand aside etc but if I get no response I say " The words you are looking for are THANK YOU" :y

At secondary school, my headmaster had a nasty trick - if he heard someone following, he'd flick the door quite violently back in a subtle flick of his fingers.  That caught a lot of kids out, myself included.

If I think someone is being a primadonna, man or woman, well, I learnt something from my old headmaster ::)

Good manner's are good manners.

If someone else has been "dragged up" and does not have them, or appreciate them, does not mean you should give up using them. Simpllles

I find that that the majority of times people do appreciate it.

and as for the headmaster, i do have a plan one day, to call them back, say "you've dropped something in there" hold the door open again as they return to the shop, and let go of the door just as they come back out again, and walk off.

The doors of my manor are always open especially to women.

In Spain people are terrible in general when you hold a door open. But coming from a country that hasn't got a word in the language for queue..... what do you expect.!

I once (briefly) had a girlfriend who got really stroppy about things like this "it's alright I can get the door myself" was one of the nicer responses I got for opening doors for her. Strange. She was about 10 years younger than me, so maybe it's a generational thing?

Exactly. It's not difficult, and just makes life more pleasant. There is enough crap going on without creating more.
I'll be pleasant and civil with anyone until they prove it isn't necessary.

ah, now, some clarification here me finks...

by holding a door open, i mean, if i go through first i make sure the door doesnt close in thier face.

i absolutely would not run ahead and open the door FOR them(unless hands are full wiith bags etc) on that basis i agree with your ex girlfriend, she can get the bloody door herself. ;D

i wouldnt run round and open a car door either, while "her ladyship" sits there waiting. Bugger that.

Woman have the right to clean, cook and give birth to children (because that bit looks painful)   :y  :D :D :D :D

And if we are being serious here, stuff like that is just basic manors imo.
Same as please and thank you in my book  :)

OK, raising the bar a fair bit then.

Tennis players,

mens game, fast, powerfull, much more precise imo. 5sets.

womens game, slower, less acurate. loads of rediculous screeching, but crucially, only 3 sets

why on earth should women get the same prize money as men for two sets less? ..as they suggest they should?

Woman shout and scream about Equality =When has a woman held a door open for you?? Even my Mrs don't do that for me But she will for another woman ??? ??? So my attitude is they got hands use them-open the door yourself-that way am treating them equally :y :y
