Title: Aerial Coax
Post by: Marie on 01 January 2013, 18:34:03
think i have broken mine behind the head unit.

can i replace the length between the amplifer and the head unit ? really need my radio back. am i right in thinking the amp is behind the drivers kick plate ( where the clutch should be)

would this be the right replacement part.

On an Omega, as far as I know, the aerial signal amp is on the rear parcel shelf.

The section of loom from the headunit to the kickpanel area you mention is replaceable.

The fly lead you have linked to wouldn't work on a standard Vx. setup...

Theres a short Aerial lead from the back of the Head unit that goes to the Drivers Kick Panel (Bonnet Catch side) which is in turn connected to another lead that then runs to the back of the car to the Aerial, so worth checking this first, Grey lead from memory with a grey plastic cover around the connection.

Depending on the age of your Car.

Late ones dont have Amps but are wired direct to the Whip on the Roof.

Earlier ones have Amps in the Tailgate and use the rear Heated windscreen as an Aerial, no Aerial on Roof, common failures on this type is the rubber grommet would come away from the top Tailgate Hinge area causing the aerial lead to cut itself around the the now bare metal hole when opening and closing the Tailgate.

Edit: What makes you think its the Connector behind the HU?, if that the case just replace that lead to the kick panel.

sorry i meant between the head unit and the kickpanel.

Easiest way to test that is to pull the connectors apart at the kick panel and attach a piece of wire or long screwdriver to the inner part of the cable only of the HU side and see if you get anything on FM.
