Rear pads are a ten minute job, including a cuppa :y
Not sure about the crank sensor as I've never had a 2.2, but ought to be fairly accessible. :-\

On a 2.2 it's far more likely to be the cam sensor, though. What are the symptoms?

Sensor access is challenging as its obscured by the aircon pump bracket

If I am reading the guide correctly dont you re-route the crank sensor round the side of the engine block, cut the old sensor end off and pull up to get rid?
