Title: Auto Choke
Post by: shanless on 04 January 2013, 02:14:17
When I start my 2.2 petrol from cold it splutters as if it has a choke problem...after a few minutes of running the splutter clears and it runs perfect....all help welcome

Check for water in plug wells - from leaky windscreen scuttle
or oil  - leaky cam cover gasket

Mine has done since I bought it 3 yrs ago! I've never cured it despite renewing cam & crank sensors (genuine GM) had a head skim, gasket & head rebuild, new timing belt & tensioners, new water pump, new MAF, regular breather/throttle body cleaning , etc. etc; (none of the above done specifically to cure the aforementioned, but none cured it either!) It only does it for a few minutes/miles from cold before running normally with no ill effects even over time, so i'm now convinced it's ECU/fuelling/software related and it no longer bothers me! ;)

My 3.2 did that.  Turned out to be coil pack.

Coolant Temperature Sensor.

If ECU doesn't know that coolant is cold it won't know that more fuel is needed.
