Title: N/S/F Rattle and other things
Post by: Craig32 on 04 January 2013, 17:38:08
Happy new year to everyone.

2.2 Petrol Auto. Has a rattle at the n/s/f so I changed the lower wishbone today (both bushes shot it). Replaced with genuine parts. I jemmied the D-Link and there seems no play in it and the ARB bush looks ok (have ordered both anyway). Could it be anything else? Also if the cam sensor was faulty would it throw up a fault code? The reason I ask its a bitch to start from standing after about 2hours and a pig in the morning loads of flat spots etc. It does throw up "lean mixture" on tech 2. I have disconnected the MAF and it did not make much difference. If it was a carburetor I would adjust the jets as it feels as if it is being starved of fuel. What do others get from a 2.2 petrol wise?

Rattle could be the drop links need replacing, quite common syptom. cam sensor is prone to playing up on the 2.2. but not always giving a code, replace with gen vx part.
Cam sesor issues sometime give transmission trouble as well but these normally go with the cam sensor being replaced.

Thanks for the info. I will order a genuine cam sensor from vx.

That's interesting about the transmission it has thrown up a few fault codes and does sometimes take its time changing down. Cheers for that.
Title: 2.2 fuel milage

I am getting 19.7 on average driving using a feather foot. This I find deplorable. I have owned 2 XJS's one a 3.6 and the other a 4.0. Both 6 pot's. I got well over 19.7 plus and some type of performance and cheaper insurance. My last car was a Vectra V6 GSi. That could do from 28 to over 40+Mpg. I don't expect this of the 2.2 engine BUT 19.7 to the gallon? I would of thought 25+.

What do other 2.2 owners get?

Oh yes the V6 GSi was cheaper on road tax too, I hate people on motorbikes who think they are God of the road. It was a "Think Bike" that wrote me V6 off. Blind bend, uphill and he was in the middle of the road. Dick head.

I think the omegas weigh in at just over the 2 ton mark if not it wont be far off. 2.2 is working hard to pull that weight as well as driver and passengers , luggage, fuel and pot noodles :y
