My wife is determined we need to buy a new bed - the one we have now is 20 years old and is 7 foot long as I am 6ft 6ins.
I am about to be dragged around the high street but a quick google and the huge array of retailers on line and the price differentials makes me not want to step foot anywhere near. I fear this will end up with an expensive House of Fraser purchase for someting that we could live with at a thrid of the price.
Anyone got any positives on people like Bensons or Dreams or Land of Beds?
Oh and current bed is a Relyon.

Budgets were tight when I bought my flat, so cheap was order of the day, I got one of these, even have the same duvet:

I went to Dreams for mattress, again one of their cheapest ones. (£450 I think) It was partial "memory foam" only top 3rd was, more expensive ones are 100 memory. Can't find it on their website, it was actually rolled up, get home, release it and leave ti for few hours.
Its actually one of the most comfy beds I've had, plenty of room & I'm 6ft5.
For cost, really makes me question ever spending stupid money on a bed

We got a Millbrook bed online, quite expensive but firm and comfortable :y

First thing you need to do with a bed is lie on it, before buying. Can't do that on the web.
IMO, find what works, memory foam, pocket sprung, water bed, whatever, by first hand experience. Then find what's cheapest on the web.
Doesn't help the stores that approach but needs must. You need a store that does all sorts. But then I have trouble sleeping with a load of aches and pains, so maybe its not so important for others, to get the right bed.

Well, a few weeks ago we decided that we wanted a new bed for our spare room. Just for visitors or if the offspring come home for a couple of days, so absolutely the cheapest possible, won't be used much. Went to both local Dreams and Bensons and really had battles with salespeople trying to get us to buy more expensive than we wanted >:( And then it turned out that nothing we wanted was in stock with several weeks delivery time. So didn't buy anything at all, put some screws in the old one and reinforced the base a bit. No problems and saved a few quid. :y

I work in furniture shop and next door to a bed shop. it all depends on what you want but as your 6'6" tall it may be difficult as a standard 5' or 6' mattresses are 6'6" long anyway. I can highly recommend the kaymed as I have one myself but really you need to go to an independent retailer who will give you the best advice and not pressurise you to try and make sales targets like the big stores do(my friend worked in furniture village and I know he was pressured by his managers to sell big he had £60,000 targets each month!)
google big sleep in Plymouth just to compare prices. hope this helps

I got a full memory foam off amazon (sun £200) and a king sized bed off fleabay (circa £400) and I must say it is bloody fantastic :y

Thanks all - House of Fraser Camberley was useless, Dreams could not quote for extra long bed, Bensons extremely helpful and £1500 would produce a pocket sprung result.
Will probably go with this unless Mrs disagrees.

Surely you just need super king size for your height? No? :-\

Same here. :y

Super king relates to width not length. Unfortunately fitted furniture is a constraint so a King is necessary.

Ah, I see.... that won't be cheap then. :(

Our bed must be a real cheapie... I'm only 5"11, and my feet still touch the (bloody cold) metal frame at the other end ;D

Blimey... 5 inches!!! ;D
I'm 6'4" and have dreadful problems with any bed with a footboard. Got my foot stuck during the night once in our spare bed ::)
We have an Ikea Super King so no issues with that one apart from trying to get mattresses that fit ::)
