Hi All
Been lurking for a while and only now just registered, but thought it necessary since we've been the owner of an 02' omega elite estate (2.6) for the last month.
We bought it because we also have a land rover discovery, which my 11 year old labrador is struggling to get in and out of the back of, and this is doing the job just fine - in fact its absolutely perfect for our needs.
It's in pretty nice condition (no rust in the usual places) and its quite highly specced, with heated rear seats, black leather, bose stereo, Parking sensors, towbar, sunroof etc and wafts along o.k with the auto box.
Disapointingly (and the reason now for signing up) is that I didnt realise until I signed the documents and handed over the folding that it only has one key (the remote one), and after panicking last night because I thought I'd dropped the key in a field :-[ I think its a good idea to get another one or two spares.
I've no worries on getting a physical key cut from my local key cutter, but I really want another remote fob, but am wondering if the fobs contain an immobiliser thing, and/or need programming.
So - where can I get another fob from and where/who can program it - either by sending it away to someone, or taking it somewhere? I'd rather not use the vauxhall dealers if I can get away with it, but appreciate that if that is the only way, then so be it.
I'm sure I'll have many more questions soon!
Cheers Chaps
Neil.

Hi Same issue with me.
Went direct to Vauxhall bought a brand new fob for around £50, they programmed it to fit my car using the car security information card which contains security information about your car, liek Chassis No. Radio Code, CD Code, key Code Immodoliser Code etc. If you haven't got a your 'Car Passport' so to speak you can order one from Vauxhall, costs around £20, which provides you with all these codes, you'll need to pop in and show registration document and ID. only takes a couple of days. Then just order a new Key fob.
-
My daughter did the same with her recently bought Astra SXI.
Only had 1 key/remote but no key pass with service folder.Trip down to local VX dealer who took details and 3 days later her car pass had arrived along with a brand new key/remote...whilst the key/remote was more expensive than RayONeill,s they waived the cost of getting the pass code as she had bought the key...job jobbed !! :y
-
Thanks Both.
Perhaps going to Vauxhall wont be as expensive as I thought. I'm pretty sure I have the car pass thing in the wallet, so that might help.
I'll give them a call later and see what the deal is.
Neil.

If you have the car pass then life is easier.
A second hand or even new remote can be sourced (make sure its the correct type) and a key cut.
Its then an easy programming exercise to delete all the existing keys and then re-program with both keys YOU now own by a local tech 2 owner.
-
Firstly, welcome to OOF :y :y :y
I'd recommend a visit to one of the Tech 2 owners on here when you have the correct parts. TheBoy is closest (I would think) in Brackley.
If you get it done by someone on here they can also give the car a good check over (with the Tech 2) and perform any software upgrades for you too :y Plus, you get to put a face to the name and someone who actually knows what they are doing, unlike many stealers, will look at your car for you :y
-
welcome to the forum :y

Welcome to OOF mate :y
The immobiliser chip sits in the horseshoe (key part) and needs programming to car by tech2. Get a key blank with blank chip off ebay (about £7), and get a tame locksmith to cut. If you get a new fob, or a 2nd hand one (make sure you get the correct one) off ebay, that will also need programming to the car. You will need your car pass.

Worth getting the new fobs & new keys cut, take the lot along to him and get it all programmed up. While your there, will be worth getting the auto box software update & climate update. Auto box upgrade, makes an already smooth box, silky smooooth :y

Dbug, I also need to get at least 1 new key as I only have 1.
My original key has 105 on the blade & has 3 buttons . I have the car pass.
If I buy one of these from e bay & then search for a good used 3 button key complete , once the new blade is cut can the key be assembled with the electronics/ buttons part of the used key then be Re- programmed by tech 2 for my car?

Make sure fob is same make/type as your existing Al - you could also just get a fob on its own if you're buying a new "horseshoe" :y
One here - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-OPEL-OMEGA-3-BUTTON-REMOTE-DOOR-FOB-/350348541168?pt=UK_Car_Accessories_Safety_Security&hash=item5192667cf0 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-OPEL-OMEGA-3-BUTTON-REMOTE-DOOR-FOB-/350348541168?pt=UK_Car_Accessories_Safety_Security&hash=item5192667cf0) - just need a new case (also cheap off ebay) :y

I know it well. Dad put an Escort in a hedge there, after picking the car up from me, after I'd just got it fixed after I'd parked it in a tree ;D. Oftern used to stop at the pub at the jnction with the A1 (before that junction was improved), as it was exactly halfway between where I lived and were my folks lived. Bit far for me to pop over :'(
I think Sam Burton is near you as well - you could have you're own Omega meet with the local members ;D
-
There are several different types of (identically looking) 3 button fobs. You need to ensure its the right one.
Andyc will be able to give you part number. He can probably supply you the fob at very good prices. I'd not bother with 2nd hand 3 button fobs.
I charge a tenner to program keys, to help cover the costs of buying the Tech2 device.

Advice taken on board TB. Will check out with AndyC . Also will need my cruise enabled & possible autobox update.
So a visit to TB "country" will be on the cards in the not too distant future one thinks :y :y

I realise this now didnt know the reasoning why the key needed to be programmed :y

so do i need a new transponder, or will the old transponder work even if it was for my previous (now dead) Omega, and again, any tech 2's near ilford, essex? Cheapest I can find is a locksmith who will charge £45 to re-programme the key.
