:D Wifey got on about Park Hampers and gave them a ring to see what it was about. Turns out that you pay so much a week/month according to what you have selected and they deliver near to next Xmas. Ah but says I, do they pay any interest on the money they collect and hold for you for the gift vouchers etc. No says she so I says in that case you would be better off taking out a 12 month savings plan at our bank or using a seperate savings account somewhere like a Credit Union and so gain interest which would then allow you to buy more for your money.
Ah she says, that is wise indeed and that is what we will do. Park rang her again to ask if she wanted to proceed and when told why not they tried all ways to convince her that it was the best way to save for Xmas and that she would otherwise miss out on 'special offers' only available to Park Customers Funny though that they could not say what the 'special offers' were :D.
How many will not heed that sound advice (gleened from MoneyExpert) and pay Park for the pleasure of doing what they could do for themselves and save money into the bargain? ;)

Didn't one of these hamper companies go belly up a few years ago just before Christmas leaving everyone out of pocket ???

I remember that too. What a nightmare that must have been for those families!
I would say Park were affected by the backlash, but you'd have thought they would be keen to hang onto any potential customers and tell them exactly what they could expect in the way if special offers and the like :-\

hamper firms = nice business model
customers pay in advance, you take the credit risk that the firm does not fold before christmas, then they deliver their hamper ( porobably filled with goodies sourced over the year very cheaply)
much better to keep the folding stuff in your back and buy exactly what you want at christmas

You put your cash in the bank and it's guaranteed by the government up to a limit (£50,000?) if the bank goes belly up. :y
You give your cash to some Christmas Club company to look after, the risk is all yours in the event of bankruptcy as many found out a couple of years ago! ::)

I use park hampers for food every year.
Yes the above issues exist but it saves me having to fight with the shoppers
who beleive that they need 2 or 3 large trolleys full of food for the xmas period.
Food with long shelf life (12 - 18 months) and no trolley rage
I would not use them for vaouchers though - i prefer the ones with a picture of the queen which can be used in any shop :-)

Not a good idea. These hampers do not give value for money. :(
Buy goods throughout the year......many will be on BOGOF. :y
