Title: MAF Kh/g Readings
Post by: Craig32 on 10 January 2013, 21:58:04
Ok as per request the MAF readings:

Tick Over Warm: 9-10

Blip throttle light: 47

Heavy Blip: 79

at 2000: 26

at 3000: 69

15c Air Intake

o2's permanently lean

So what does this suggest?

Both?

Also, what are trims doing?

Yep both sensors stay on lean even when blipping the throttle. (replaced the pre cat sensor in November last year.)  The fuel trim comes up as 0. I am worried its the cat.

It won't be the cat as the sensors are before the cat. Not saying cat isn't faulty, but not under suspicion currently.

For some reason it's not going closed loop.

Can you see the coolant temperature? Does that rise quickly to a sensible value (80-100 degrees C)?

Hi Kevin, the engine takes a mile or to get warm its normally around 75-80. The heater warms up very quick (which is a blessing at the moment). It runs better with the MAF disconnected but far from perfect. What are your thoughts?

The "on the dash" sensor is different to the ecu temp sender. Although the temp may go up, is the ecu seeing this rise?
The scanner reads what the ecu sees.

Scanner should be able to confirm if its going closed loop or not

right I will see what the ECU temp say's tomorrow (weather pending). Where abouts is the ect sensor on the 2.2?

Right, I checked the ECU water temp today and it read the same as the temp gauge so I would assume its not the ECT sensor giving wrong readings. Runs about 75-80 unless in traffic. Any thoughts?

going into closed loop?

has anyone mention checking for airs leaks?

Work done to date:

Plugs

coil pack

oil/filter/air filter

Throttle body clean and breathers cleaned (no leaks)

new lambda on the pre-cat

Runs better with MAF disconnected.

Any ideas?

Still not answered the question ...

Is it going to "closed loop" ???

:)

Sorry :o! it goes into open loop :)

Sorry :o! it goes into open loop :)

You mean it STAYS in "Open Loop" ??? it should start in "Open Loop" when cold then go to "Closed Loop" as it warms up.

If it stays in "Open Loop" it is probably NOT running efficiently at all as the fuel is not being continually adjusted by the ECU.

Yep it stays in open loop all the while and the fuel trim is 0.  :(

It would explain its lousy fuel economy and stuttering especially 3000 -4500 rpm. You have to floor it up the slightest slope otherwise people walk past. :'(

I'd be inclined to see if Marks DTM in Nottingham has any time to do a proper live data check on it...   ...I'm suspicious of the readings your machine is giving you.

Finally got it sorted :D! Changed the MAF and an instant difference, it was smoother and wanted to pull better and improved gear change. It was still being twitchy to start after an hour or so. I purchased a new exhaust manifold (suspected the manifold I could here a blowing from cold) everything fitted today and for the first time since October she finally drive's really well. Thanks everyone for your guidance and help, much appreciated :y
