Title: Germany repatriates its gold
Post by: albitz on 16 January 2013, 22:11:55
Germany owns the second biggest (after the U.S.) gold reserves in the world. It keeps a certain amount of it in other countries, but has decided to bring some (possibly all ?) of it back to Germany. The official reason seems to be that they want to audit it,but surely they could send german auditors to the U.S. and elswhere to examine it.
Anyone got any other ideas why they would be doing this.Im mildly curious and pretty bored. ::)

Gold is worth a shed load now, more than it has been worth since it was invented!

Germany is in the stink, same as every other country in the EU, but they have some serious wedge invested in this gold.

It's an asset which they can use when their economic system fails epically.  When held overseas, other countries can hold it as 'ransom' for debts owed.  That cant happen when it is in their own territory.

I speculate Germany will be leaving the EU in the next few years.

(I know Gold wasn't invented) #noedit

They're planning on leaving the Euro and want their reserves at home to back up the Neu-Mark...  :)

I read something about this a few weeks back. The reason given then was that the Germans were using smoke and mirrors and didn't actually have all the gold they claimed. This maybe will show the doubting Thomasinas that they do have the gold. ( How will we know that it isn't just being sent back as soon as it is audited only to be brought back again..............................

I like the suggestion that it will be better on German soil when they leave the euro. (Gerxit?) I bet every country in the euro has done a simulation of what would be needed in the event of euro collapse / leaving the euro.

I wonder if Mcruin ever has sleepless nights over selling our gold off so cheap? Idiot.

One of the reasons Greece is so deep in the Doo-Doo is that it's gold reserves were plundered by the Nazis and Post War Germany has turned a deaf ear to the greeks demands for it's return! ???

Germany is getting ready for either a break up of the Euro, a Euro exit or a US default. In the 1930's the US nationalized all gold and made it illegal for all organisations and individuals to hold any other than jewelry.

At the end of the last unpleasantness betweens us and the Reich a lot of gold was never recovered, perhaps the boche think that after stealing it 70 years ago the time might be right to start spending,/taking it back.
. Remember the nazi's hid gold all over the world so the 1000 year reich would be real, has anybody looked into angles merchals family past. Klop

It could be a fast default through Congress not raising the debt ceiling or more likely a slow default where they ramp up inflation.  :-\
