My friend has been off work with stress for 3 weeks. She got an unfit for work cetificate for 2 weeks.
When she got another doctors appointment the doctor was really horrible to her. She gave her a fitness for work but ticked 'may be fit for work taking into account of the following advice'. She wrote about: her being undermined by colleagues, no training etc.
She works at a very well known children's hospital in London.
She does not want to go back to work. She handed her notice in but still has 4 weeks notice to run.
What should she do?

Frankly Kate your friend should go back to work and then go through a mental "break down" with stress. I am sure then her employers will give her permission to go home and have sick leave until her notice expires. To let her continue to work with patients would be a severe risk given her health, and they will want to protect the patients and other members of staff. ;) ;)

In that case Kate she should get a second doctors opinion and request a referral to a mental health team ;) With what you say she requires very urgent help. I can say that as I have been there myself in the past!! :P

If she has quit because her position and work environment was made difficult by her employer or collegues then she can go down the unfair dismissal route. She will have to do it within 6 months AFAICR :y

Most hospitals have a councillor you can talk too- I sometimes had to go-cant/wont say why but suffice to say no nurse can do their job and not get emotionally involved :y

She sent them an email today asking if she could finish as of 21st January.
Will she be able to apply for benefits do you think?

Forgot to mention she is a health care assistant.

It could well be though Kate that she is suffering from mental illness and has had an untreated problem for some time.
She must see another doctor and get that referral. ;)

Know what you mean about breaks-had to fit one in if you had time-which wasnt very often.
Hope your friend gets over this bad patch-not all doom and gloom-as for benefits I dont know maybe C.A.B?
AND some nurse do treat care assistance like dirt-have seen/reported them-supposed to be Health Care PROFESSIONAL

no if you give your job up you are entitled to nothing for 6 months unless she can prove with the doc she is unfit too work

Been there myself -like your friend-moved wards -renal-quite harrowing at times-so just let your friend know that you there,give them a hug and they will be be calmer and more rational :y :y

Thanks. That's very good advice and much appreciated. I've told her not go back as the job is making her ill. This hospital seems to be in a bad state. When it's on TV it seems quite the oppostie.

She could always apply for transfer or do job at other hospital/care home :y :y
