Title: Connecting an iPhone to an Omega audio system.
Post by: OmegaAnglesey on 26 January 2013, 18:56:24
Hi all, I was just wondering how hard would this procedure actually be ? Basically I would like to play music from my iPhone 5 though the Omega's speakers not to make/receive calls just play music. Anyone done this ?

Thanks in advance.  :)

Only way to do this i think is the way i do it and that is by the use of a radio transmitter.
Very easy to buy. plugs into the bottom via the charge connector with the adapter to the iPhone 4 and below charger and then tune into the radio.

Very good. if you get a good quality one.

Hope this helps.

Did a Vectra with NCDC Sat Nav a few years back, but your topic has been discussed on here a few times as a no no, unless through a FM modulater..

Guessing not much use to you OM2.2, as yours being a GLS wont have NCDC fitted, or should I guess again and find the 'with Extras' means youve fitted one.

If it has a cassette player then these tend to be superior to the FM Modulators but FM Mods work reasonably well (in this country) :y

A wired in fm modulator. That's it. Forget the cheapo crap over the air ones. They are hamstrung on output by legal requirements.

There are numerous wired ones available, some with day mounted screens. Some discreetly hidden. Must be wired though, ime anyway.

We had good results with a (genuine) Griffin iTrip in the UK. It was abysmal in Switzerland and Northern Italy though ::)

There isn't one out for the 5 yet though (AFAIK)

As you say though, wired will be superior :y

No idea... The cheap one I bought was utterly shite but the Griffin one was reasonable :y

Should work but I'm alway wary of things that aren't supplied in retail packaging ;)

I just use a cassette adaptor on my 2006. Surprisingly good considering it was about two quid on the bay! I had bought it purely to try as a stopgap whilst deciding what to do next, but 14 months later its still going strong  :y

I find all the iTrips (genuine, or chinese crap) to be poor.

I personally use one of Dave DND's FM transmitters. Whilst most definately not perfect (poor choice of frequencies on the unit I have), its the best I've found so far.  In fairness, I haven't permenently fitted mine (I'd fit near rear windows if I did), but keep it as a unit I plug in the ciggy lighter, and move between cars.

With the cheapie ones, its luck of the draw. I've had some good ones, and some really poor ones.

I'd still use my good ones, but no cassette player in either car now...

Cassette adaptors should never be used in decks that have an electronic load/eject as the extra thickness of the unit and the fly lead can often cause the mechanism to jam up

Bothered? What possible use could it have? Other than stuffing sweet papers in as a reserve ash tray? ;D
