Title: Computer Advice Please
Post by: Lizzie_Zoom on 28 January 2013, 15:55:56
One of my friends is having some trouble with a PC that struggles to open, but is giving her problems with especially emails that never seem to work.

When trying to use her Yahoo email page another tab flashes up, freezers the Yahoo page, with the tab reading :

"#tracker=UA-17281-20&....."

Can anyone please tell me what this means?

No idea, but probably related to some tracker based advertising from spy ware.

What browser are they using? Get them to remove the un-install and remove the browser & re-install?

I would avoid Chrome like the plague, way too insecure. If you need a secondary browser, try Firefox, but update it weekly.

Sounds like some malware - run the freebie Malwarebytes Antimalware over it (go for freebie, not free trial)

FireFox is the ONLY browser to use IMO.

Install AdBlock+ (It's an Add-On)

You'll never see Adverts.  The Internet looks so much better without Ad's everywhere!  :y

If you understand its weaknesses, security wise*, its OK to use for experienced users. Although as its the slowest, least stable, and worse renderer of the big 3, I fail to see the point.

*As in it has none. Its built completely around a sandbox model for security, but so badly implemented, its been broken for about 2 years.

IE is the fastest renderer out there.

What slows IE (and other browsers) down is plugins. Thing is, idiots install everything that a website suggests, good or bad, and this really screws the browser. Many users tend to only try other browsers once they have already screwed IE, so it then seems faster. Like brand new Michelin tyres feeling like they are really good, simply because the old tyres were utterly shagged.

Its these uninformed users that willingly follow any link, or install any dodgy plugin, that are at severe risk if they use an insecure browser like Chrome.

IMHO of course.

I have tried to persevere with IE, done several fresh installs and still allways feel disapointed with it, I have settled with  firefox in the end.
