Title: jack plug
Post by: pauls on 28 January 2013, 22:00:18
Just a quick question, can you replace a jack plug on the end of a set of ear phones or is it just a case of binning them and buying a new pair.

Yes, easy 30p fix, if your soldering skills are up for it.  :y

Not a big problem if you can use a soldering iron, and even if you can't it's worth a shot. Just make sure you get the correct size which is measured in mm, and also make sure the plugs you buy are stereo.

Go to Maplins, either a real shop or online. If you go to a real shop the staff are usually very helpful.

BUT if they are really REALLY cheap heaphones, then maybe dump them.

OP said ear phones not head phones so about 50p to a £1.00 for a set, why bother, unless as previously said they are something special..... ::) ::)

Ah, ok "Earphones", well my Sennheisers were over £30, I'd put a new plug on them. But as you say if they were a couple of quid in HMV or something . . . .

Drop it round sometime and I'll solder a new plug on. As said, hardly worth it, but if they have "sentimental" value, then I'd be happy to keep the peace. Haven't got any pink plugs, though. Could ask DLK if he has any pink paint, I suppose. ;)
