Title: Thermostat
Post by: stevenenglish on 29 January 2013, 18:22:21
Have read several posts about the heating system, flushing through etc., however, with the temperature gauge prior to yesterday has never risen above zero, even on long journeys, or even over say 50 miles. Yesterday was stuck in slow moving traffic and gauge rose to 85 on dial and stayed there whilst slowly moving and then whilst moving in fast traffic, today same, rose to about 90, but then stayed there. Could the thermostat have been stuck all this time or other problem? Have checked cooling fluids weekly and no loss of water, no apparent leaks, all seems fine and no over heating smells. Car runs fine all the time and doesn't appear to be any difficulties. 2.6CDX 2002 auto saloon. Just curious really.

Or the gauge its self, or the gauge sender screwed into the coolent bridge.  :y

Or the connection between gauge sender and wiring loom.  Poorly environment-proofed IIRC, so contact corrosion a distinct possibility.

Thanks chaps, will investigate contacts, gauge and corrosion etc., rear shocks to do this weekend, so may have to wait.

Steve, you don't mention in the OP  if the heating is working well or indeed at all.

Is the heating very slow to warm up & does it get fully hot.

Lastly , did you notice that the heating is working better now the gauge moves up to the 85/90 region

Just asking as the more info the better the diagnosis from the guys on here  :y

Al, the heating has always appeared to work failry well and heats up fairly quickly but not overly hot, climate control keeps either side warm or hot as required, front demist slow and condensation build up sometimes on rear windows.

IMO . . .  Go with checking the points raised in previous few posts above  then & see what turns up .

We can look deeper if nothing improves  :y
