£250,000 tower bites the dust. If only the rest could face the same demise. ;)

Well if one can fail so easily, it does make you wonder about the rest!
Imagine if they had been around in the storm of 1987. Not would there be scenes of trees all lying on their sides, but wind turbines as well! :o :o :o
Bet there are a lot of worried people in that industry! ::) ::) ::) :D :D ;)

I bet there is not. They will have replacement at governments cost written in the clauses. Same as they get paid if they are not generating. The worried people are actually the joe public - they just don't realsie it.

"A spokesman for Wales-based firm Dulas said the generator had a five-year warranty" :D ;)

Was it built by Harland and Wolff?
They have bolt problems in the past. ;D

That's alright then. If one falls over and kills or injures a few people, they can tell their relatives, don't worry it has a 5 year warrenty. :o :o :o :o :o :o

That was not the question being asked by Varche ::) ::) ;)

Five year warranty. I stand corrected. What idiot government minister agreed to that then.? I wonder what the expected life of an installation is then? Five years and one day?
I always remember the M69 motorway (links M1 with M6) . It had only been open a few years and the surface was ripped up at great expense. The signs proudly proclaimed carriageway worn out. At the time I remarked - I bet the contractor didn't repair their faulty work free of charge. I now bet no one got sacked either. Probably promoted to approving clauses in wind turbine contracts.

I agree Varche! Five years is an extended warranty on a washing machine, not a huge piece of machinery that should have a 15-20 year guarantee, if not even more!
Rods2 also made that interesting point about personal injury when one of these things come down. I bet the Government haven't got separate guarantee's from the supplying company for that event!! ::) ::) ::) ::)
-
I'm confused ... :(
Why would the Government have any say/input into the warranty on this item ?? and why would they care ??
Built by a private concern, operated by a private concern, on private land.
The government will lose no money by this "happening" and I'm certain that under H&S laws the PRIVATE companies concerned would have the correct insurance.

Well you could be right Entwood, but I, and obviously Varche, assumed the deals are backed by government subsidy and are involved in the final contract. Perhaps not then! ;D ;D ;D ;D
Thinking on about the warranty issue, I have remembered that in business we usually wrote down and off, by either straight line or staggered depreciation, equipment over five years, fixtures and fittings over 3 years. So perhaps a 5 year warranty covers the companies for the time the capital equipment is written down (??) ;)

is it a design fault or was it erected properly

They are apparently investigating that one! ;)

Skullduggery afoot?

Much as I dislike them, if sabotage is confirmed, it would be a stupidly dangerous act. Those things can easily kill people when toppling over. >:(
-
When I said the pikeys nicked the bolts I was joking ..honest .. no inside knowledge at all .... :)

So, suspect has a huge plastic box attached to the rear of his car... ::)

The authorities will never catch the saboteurs!! They'll have bolted....... ;)

Now that is serious and beyond any joke :o :o :o :o :(

So.. now we'll not only have to put up with these eyesores in the countryside but we'll be denied access to the area for miles around too in case we've got a pocketful of spanners. ::)
Still, a very irresponsible thing to have done. One of them landing on the bonce would smart a bit, I reckon. >:(
-
didnt the germans use TNT on a few some years ago? when the locals didnt want them,
-
I reckon the chances of a windturbine in a field toppling over and hitting someone is slim to be honest.... :-\ But think of all the diced lamb!! :)
However they are cropping up in built up areas so that's a worry... :(
