Should I be going genuine GM? Popped in to local dealer today, but they only sell the whole housing with stat. £57.72 + £3.42 for the required gasket!
Are there any good third party ones? ( http://www.vauxhallworldparts.com/vauxhall.php?partnumber=90501081&partid=267 (http://www.vauxhallworldparts.com/vauxhall.php?partnumber=90501081&partid=267) )
Can you not buy just the stat?
Many thanks

Decent motor factors shouldn`t be more than a tenner. Stat only needed

I have just change the stat in my 2.2 today for a genuine one from AndyC.
I fitted an after market Febi one in July 2011 as the temp gauge was reading 75 on motorways/with air con on. This Febi one seems to have got worse over time, now temp gauge reading 80.
The new one is now fitted, car warms up much quicker, and holds the temp at 85 steadily.
Febi one was £25, OEM was around £50, I would definitely go OEM.

Thank you all - if I can find one I will try the £10 option but be prepared that I may have to shell out in the end.

Fitted the cheap option and it is much better, but I suspect not as good a genuine GM.
Temp rises quickly to 90C then drops to 80C before settling and staying at 85C. Much better than the previous running at 75C.
Time will tell as always though I guess!

Glad to hear it has worked. As you will now know it is a very quick and easy job to do!
That is exactly what my "genuine" thermostat does, so a good start. I think it is what my pattern one did as well for a while, then it slowly got colder and colder!

Thank you - I will keep an eye on it and update the post if it starts to cool down.
Good to know that currently at least it is doing the same are genuine GM :-)

Arrived and fitted this morning. Car seems to warm up quicker and sits around the 85/86 mark once hot(motorway and Town). Used to drop to 75ish on the motorway. Comes with 12 month warranty.
The old themo i tested in a kettle(don't tell the wife) seemed to be stuck in the fully open position. The housing looks exactly like the genuine GM part. The small rubber gasket seems slightly thicker but this may be because the old one was compressed in the old housing. Everything lined up and fitted perfectly.
