Title: Propshaft issue
Post by: 05omegav6 on 05 February 2013, 14:50:40
Right. Trying to liberate the gearbox in order to change the clutch and the car is fighting every simple step >:(

Cannot get the propshaft to slide back far enough to clear the gearbox. Have tried levering it, but no joy.

Any ideas?

Only 11 bolts left and am close enough to taste clutch dust :-\ and I am certain that I don't need to remove the whole thing, as I didn't last time :-\

The slider is only to intended to cope with movement of the gearbox and engine on their mounts. To remove the prop shaft you've to undo it from the diff & at the centre bearing.

So you have removed the bolts from the rubber donut?

So you have removed the bolts from the rubber donut?
::) all 6 of them :y

Managed to 'pop' the propshaft out, took some levering though.

When I refit it, will it matter if I don't refit the harmonic balancer?

I had to look that up  ::)  it's actually an important part on your engine that helps your crankshaft last as long as possible  :-\

Refitted ::) actually has two, one is the crank pulley, tother is balanced to the propshaft :y

An absolute swine to refit, but all bolted up again :y

And for the purists, it is lined up correctly, as I marked it up last time I removed it :P
