Title: V6 2.6 Autobox
Post by: VXL V6 on 05 February 2013, 17:45:38
I presume it's an AR25?

I also presume an AR35 can be slotted in?

I know that an AR25 bolted to a 2.5 TD is the common failure combination, but wondered if there have been many instances of an AR25 bolted to a 2.6 failing?

TIA

AR35 will go straight in. :y Afaik they are a bit marginal in the 2.5/2.6 (I had one fail in my old 2.5 at 90,000miles.

Not seen too many issues with 2.5/2.6 boxes reported on here, doubt its worth doing unless it fails?  :-\

Yes, wouldn't change one unless failed but just checking what needs to be 'considered' with a different flavour of Omega as 2 x 3.2's and 2 x DTi's is the basis of my Omega knowledge.  :y

Agreed. Pretty much guaranteed failure on a TD much over 6 figure miles, but there must be an awful lot of 2.6s around with autoboxes that have survived well, and can't recall more than a handful of failures.

Torque output on both a 2.6 and TD in standard form is pretty close to the 250Nm limit for the box, but, I suspect, on a TD, that torque is at much lower revs and the box is subjected to it almost constantly whereas the characteristics of a petrol engine give it an easier life.

Yes, I think the torque curve looks more like a heartbeat on a Diesel.... It only really exists when the turbo has spun up and very shortly after it's depleted. I guess the fact that 'kickdown' would be the standard way of invoking turbo assistance doesn't overly help.

If you're now considering 2.6 Auto's would it not make more (economical) sense to to just LPG your 3.2 and be done with it? :-\ :-\

I was hoping to keep the mileage down on the 3.2 and run around (mainly commuting and to and from various UK sites) in something i'm a little less fussy over.

Really don't know what to do for the best TBH

Hmm... Tough one... I think, if it were me, I'd save the purchase price of another car and LPG the perfectly good one you have :-\ Not to mention RFL and insurance on another one  :-\

But only you can decide ;)
