Hi all
This is a weird one only noticed it today! When I put my manual v reg 2.5 V6 into reverse the rear fog light lights up on my instrument panel.
Any clues why this is happening? Dark out so have not checked fuses but left side brake light not working I believe due to the wire attached to the boot hood prob snapped inside so will solder at weekend.
Turned lights on and off also pressed the dash switch and all working fine, but puzzling why it's just started to come on when putting in reverse.
All advice appreciated.
Gav :)

Light cluster in bootlid full of water?
-
Faulty earth turn ignition on put in reverse if dash light comes on go to back of the car and you prob have a disco with reverse and fog lights glowing dull check for water or bad earth
-
I had similar when attached to our caravan when there was a bad connection on the caravan's lights. ;)

Thanks Guys for your advice, will check tomoz and let you know.
So to be dumb but If the wiring is coming away/frayed on wiring cable :-\ :-\ ??? inside of boot lid could that be the likely source of bad earth? :)
-
Do you have a towbar fitted?
I don't think a poor earth is the problem, more likely damaged cabling (either the frayed cabling at the boot hinge you mentioned or a damaged towing socket) is shorting between the reverse lamp circuit and the fog light circuit.

As you already know you have an issue with the bootlid wiring it will be in there... Mine was :y

Had this on couple of saloons on both turned out to be were the loom runs from the boot past the hinges into the boot lid was a broken wire.
new s/h loom cured it.

Or repair the one that's there ;)

If damaged, given location, I'd replace if possible.

definitely water in the wiring somewhere. take the lens out and leave it on a rad in the house to dry out, meanwhile dry off the connectors with an extension lead and a hairdryer ...!

I soldered in a short loop of wire to repair the break :y

I disagree... He already has a known fault in the boot loom and this is almost certainly (95% certain) another ;)

exsactly the same happend to my minifacelift saloon

Lazydocker, solder can go brittle, and its an area that flexes, hence I'd replace. Gonna be dirt cheap from a breaker

inferior face-lift/lead-free solder ;D
I didn't know of any convenient breakers when the wire broke on my last Omega so I replaced a long enough section that the soldered joints were in an area were flexing didn't occur :y
