Post by: Selseybill on 08 February 2013, 19:45:57
Hi chaps anyone help me on this one. When i use my wipers on the intermittent setting or window wash they will not do a single sweep. They sweep anywhere between 5 to 20 sweeps before returning to park. Any one got a clue why it doing this.

I'd start by swapping the wiper relay for a known-to-be-OK relay  :-\

Right bought a new relay from the dealers still the same problem. Took it back to change the relay which they did and still the same.
The various intermittent setting act the same as if the wipers are on full time. If i remove the relay totally the wiper don't work.
The intermittent wipers function is a factory fitment. As far as i can see there are not loose or broken wires from the stork.

If i turn on the wipers just for a quick wipe and pull the stork down to the off position they just keep wiping for 15 to 20 wipes before stopping in the park area of the windscreen.

It must the park switch inside the wiper motor then. Unfortunately it's part of the motor & not intended to be got at. However .... when I had a problem with the self park on an Astra I had, I drilled the rivets from the cover, bent the contact arm a little & self tappered  the lid back on.
Obviously the whole mechanism will need to come out to get to the motor. Remove the plastic scuttle, then 4 long self tappers to remove the mechanism ...... be careful of the paint on top of your driver's side wing.  :y

Mine do stop after about 20 sweeps. You can try a electrical spray cleaner from DIY store or Maplins but this didn't fix mine
