Well apparently it's a relatively easy fix but never actually stripping a gearbox down I don't know if its worth ago or not

Blimey :o
You must like tin tenting.....you've got enough of them :o ;D

nice bimmer.. :y
parts and repairs are not cheap so be warned.. it must be ZF and costly even in scrappies.. :-\
-
I would like to see your insurance quotes for it Sam. :o ::) ;D
Nice car though.Well worth fixing I would have thought. :y
-
Changing the box should be simple enough, rebuilding it looks tricky. Not sure I would want to do that on someone else's car :o
-
Sassanach gota be favourite.
I'm itching to fiddle with an Auto box innards, but not on someone else's car, with no prior experience.
Best of luck. :)

To be honest I was thinking the same I got quote between £1900 to £2750 but if I restore it and have it ready for November I can get it down to £1300 which is £100 more than Miggy :) but well see how it plans out

Looking at those pictures I'd have thought open heart surgery would be easier :o :o ;D
Looks nice enough well worth saving if it can be fixed for a reasonable price :y
They seem to make good money.

Handsome looking things they are, and you're getting a car worth a fair screw for nothing! I
-
Have to agree, that shape is one of the best looking 5's - much prefer them to the later ones, like Omegas though, most have starship miles :(
-
Nice looking motor for free :P :y Got to ask though , why has it broken and is it a common fault ???

Those beemer V8's are not too bad actually, more than enough power for the size, so does not have to work that hard. Bet its fuel use is not far off a 3.2 Omega :)
