Any garage worth their salt should be able to fit a second-hand gearbox shouldn't they?  ???

Got to be worth doing if you're getting the car for free  :P

Well apparently it's a relatively easy fix but never actually stripping a gearbox down I don't know if its worth ago or not

Drop a PM to sassanach, he is a gearbox expert. He can strip down an AR25/35 in seconds  :y

Changing the box should be simple enough, rebuilding it looks tricky.  Not sure I would want to do that on someone else's car :o

Sassanach gota be favourite.

I'm itching to fiddle with an Auto box innards, but not on someone else's car, with no prior experience.

Best of luck. :)

To be honest I was thinking the same I got quote between £1900 to £2750 but if I restore it and have it ready for November I can get it down to £1300 which is £100 more than Miggy :) but well see how it plans out

Looking at those pictures I'd have thought open heart surgery would be easier  :o :o ;D

Looks nice enough well worth saving if it can be fixed for a reasonable price :y

Have to agree, that shape is one of the best looking 5's - much prefer them to the later ones, like Omegas though, most have starship miles :(

Those beemer V8's are not too bad actually, more than enough power for the size, so does not have to work that hard. Bet its fuel use is not far off a 3.2 Omega  :)
