Got flashed by a GATSO camera this morning on my way to work..... :(
I was driving towards it however and I've been told today that they only give tickets when they photograph the rear of the the car..... :-\ I hope it's true, but I'm not counting my chickens!! ::) At the end of the day I did the crime..... :-[
Anyone know?

No! The pictures taken from the front show who was driving and are often used to give a fine and penalty points. Most modern speed cameras now take their pictures showing the front of the vehicle to aid a prosecution if it goes to court.
Bad luck though, but maybe, just maybe, the camera wasn't live, but with the new digital cameras who knows! ::) ::) ::)
-
Depends some take pictures of the front some from behind. Was there any count down markers on the road. If the camera was for the opposite carriageway it will be slightly angled to that side. Most of the oncoming Gatso's will have a IR light and do not flash as this is dangerous at night to oncoming drivers.
I have a Gatso on my way to work that is for the opposite carriageway that i can set off if am close the the centre line. Never had a fine from it in the last 10 years.

Agreed, the camera's that get you approaching do not flash :y
-
Forgot to mention the Gatso's that take frontal shots are also used as proof if the police what to convict for not wearing a seat belt.
Some of the very old French motorway Gatso's flash the front of the car. Bloody dangerous at night. The new type are built into the Armco.

When you get your letter of intended prosecution they usually provide a web link - click on it & you'll see your car on camera! There were a couple of good shots of my Jag in Stevenage recently ::)

Most of the cameras round here flash away all day. Just about everyone knows they are not in use.

I approached a Camera, got flashed, and got the letter, had to do a speed awareness course, which I quite enjoyed actually :y.
-
Depends... If it was a GATSO then you should be OK, but there are many different types now ;)

Truvelo ;) Which aren't radar triggered (piezo sensors in the road instead) and have no 'countdown' markings on the road..

Ah I've heard about your little map of Tasmania and as for following my nose, she's very fragrant so that's the easy bit! :y
What I could do with a bit of advice from a man of the world such as yourself Lovelength, is how to slip past the man mountain that is her scowling steroidal boyfriend.... :-\

Yeah, to cover both sides of the road. However, look at road sensors, you'll see it only gets oncoming traffic (depending which way its pointing :)

Humberside plod only have 4 camera's but about 15 sites.

3points and 60quid :( >:( I got done for exceeding 30mph I was clocked at 35mph, first offence since 1965, , took the points..or for £80 you can do the course, but the insurance companies still want to know if you have been involved in a speeding incident.
-
Ah yes that's exactly what I need and just the right shade of fake tan as well!! Stick on a few 'tattoo' stickers, look suitably angry and I'll be in like Flynn!! :y

A guy I work with has just got a ticket for 35mph in a 30mph. They were catching drivers as they left a 30mph zone, as they slightly speed up in the final few metres to enter the national speed zone. Still no defence in the eyes of the law though.
I thought it was still ten percent + 2, so 35mph would just be in, but obviously that has changed. :-\
-
The 10% + 2 is a guideline, not law. Some areas ignore it at times.Particularily if they need to generate some revenue.
Us motorists are helpless cash cows after all.I cant be arsed fighting it any more tbh,I tend to stick to the speed limits these days.
I really am getting old. ;D
-
I was really cursing the driver in front of me yesterday, for going ridiculously slow on the main road. With no opportunity to overtake, I had to sit behind him as he slowed to 20mph as he approached the 30mph zone, only to see the police camera van parked up with the flap down and lens pointing at us. I went past it at 20mph, still following the guy I had been cursing, and I thought, what a lovely chap the guy in front is as he's just saved me from getting a ticket. ;) ;D

I have done something similar, but the guy in front was speeding and so was I. The police officer with the radar gun got him, not me, as my front number plate was hidden by the car in front. Quick application of the brakes and I was doing dead on the speed limit as the gun would have seen my front number plate. I am sure the other driver got a ticket, but I never did!
Another great escape by me that has resulted in no points, no fines, in 1 million miles of motoring on often very fast business runs. Call me bloody lucky, because I have been! :D :D :D :D

You're bloody lucky!!! :)
I had a clean licence for 23 years, but now if this one comes through it'll be the fourth ticket in 3 years! :-[ Luckily I got offered a speed awareness course on one of them so I'll 'only' have 9 points, if I don't get away with this one.... ::)
