Come on guys, you know backups run at top of the hour, causing a slowdown for about 90s.

Alas, at 8pm and 9pm this evening, the Redhat server crashed whilst running the backups.  Bloody Linux, can't handle the pace  >:(

It will get progressively worse with the current backup strategy as it has more and more data to snapshot, compress, and ftp off somewhere...

Wait, is the forum crashing b/c you're plastered or are you plastered b/c the forum is crashing?  :-?

If you need some lighter fluid, you know where I am!  On that subject, there would probably be toxic fumes if I threw my laptop onto the town bonfire this weekend?

So fairly conclusive then that my backup script was a load of toss....

Just a timeout, or an error message?

23:30, the tape backup kicks in, which may affect server performance a little...

If you had to reboot, that is an issue local to your machine....

That is what I thought but it only ever happens when I am on this site late at night. Never in the day and never on any other site! It may be purely coincedental (is that how you spell it) but it has happened a number of times.

Yes, we've noticed at work that IE7 has a few lockups under certain circumstances, even the release version...

Hopefully, now its released any getting mainstream, MS will start fixing the issues that probably didn't turn up in limited beta testing...

Oh, agreed, I think it is a problem here, but IE7 cannot cope with it (yet).

At 23:30, the tape backups kick in for around 3hrs, this obviously hits the host server's disks heavily, causing a slowdown (though not a lockup) due to the forum waiting for the disk system to deal with request. Your browser should just respond a little slowly, not crash the system.

I have a plan though. All this week my shifts have finished between 23:00 and 03:00 which means I am online during the night. Next week I am on days so shouldn't be a probem.
