Hi All, Car is a 2.5 V6 automatic....No problems until today when I put it into sport mode and used kickdown....got to between 3000 +4000 revs and then misfired that badly that it stopped accelerating at all. Tried it several times in and out of sport mode ...the same fault, locked it into first gear and again same fault. There is no noticable lack of power or misfire under normal use not exceeding around 3000rpm...the tickover at 500rpm which used to be perfect is now very slightly uneven. Code reader shows only code 19 which is incorrect rpm....any ideas please?

Sorry don't agree with that.
A code reader is showing code 19, thats crank sensor :y
-
You want to get that crank sensor replaced quickly, as it can fail at any time.
Can you get access to genuine GM parts?
Also double check the plugs for oil/water :y
-
code 19 is usually crank shaft sensor ;)

Many thanks for the replies...I am breaking another V6 so i can use the crank sensor out of it to try it....

Not all V6 crank sensors are the same, they changed over the years :y
Try AndyC for trade prices, he is a parts manager at a Vauxhall dealer :y

See Andyc in recommended, trade prices on crank sensor I think, as its not on tc.
Too late. :)

Replaced crank sensor and fault has been cured as per advice thank you. Checked codes again after a run and code 31 showed up, again referring to rpm fault, cleared it ,started the engine and revved up but not been for a run yet but no faults reappeared. What is code 31 cause please.
-
31 is No crank signal - perfectly normal when the engine is off :y
-
Thanks Jimbob, looks like were back to normal now then. Once again my thanks to those who helped with the correct advice so quickly.
-
easy fix then well done :y

Just out of curiosity would the failing crank sensor also cause the EML light to come on as it has stored a fault code and didn,t read any mention of that.
Reason I ask is I also have a slight hesitation over 4k although does rev beyond that...as no EML I didn,t think to read the codes stored as had assumed NO EML....NO CODE
-
19 Doesn't tend to put on the EML, a huge oversight imho.
-
Thanks for clarrification,Jimbob.
Perhaps mine is crank sensor also :(...will have a look at what codes ,if any, are stored.
Remember replacing sensor about 120k ago ;D

LOL,I should fit a new one then,it's on borrowed time anyway.
-
Checked codes and nothing stored .
Only ever gives miss when hard acceleration otherwise pulls smooth and hard. Will find old receipt for correct part # and give dealer a call in morning as expect thats the next part to fail ;D
-
Situation worse than originally thought :-[ :-[
Last crank sensor fitted 30/04/2007 :-X think it is probably due another just for lasting that long ;D
-
I wouldnt be too quick to condemn it...
When was your fuel filter last changed?

Both fuel filter and plugs replaced less than 10k ago along with leads and dispack . :y
Will have a close look at 2/4/6 bank as did have a whiff of oil earlier, although oil and breathers also done less than 2k ago too.
Fancy a morning on the car ;D
